seems like too soon, there's zero chance I go to a concert or even a half-empty bar until I've got a positive antibody test or been vaccinated and I can't see either of those things being available (to me anyway) by October

Yeah, we just lost Barracuda, where I saw LPD and Ex Hex (among others) last year... gonna miss that place. Don't want to think about what things will look like a year from now for live music venues in Austin.

Lollapalooza in Chicago was finally officially canceled this week.

I miss live music so much that I've resorted to doing what I did when i was in college and couldn't afford to go to any.... watching live vids.

The Satellite / Spacelab in LA is converting to a gastropub after 25 years as a live venue, and Re-Bar in Seattle (mainly a DJ and drag and theatre and weirdo gay video arts, but some live music) has been forced out of one of the only remaining single-story buildings downtown, after 30 years - their neighbour in the building is a sandwich shop that opened in 1948. Nirvana held the Nevermind launch party there, and got kicked out for trying to get in the DJ booth.

So it would appear that all the festivals are more or less back in force, with a few new additions. Different requirements for the ones I've seen, though (besides the standing requirement that they all feature the same bands). Pitchfork requires proof of vaccination or negative test *and* a mask, iirc, Lollapalooza requires proof of vaccination or negative test, *or* a mask. I think Bonnaroo is masks required (but no proof of vaccination or negative test). Riot Fest says "full compliance with local and state regulations regarding health screenings and mask mandates," which is non committal and probably takes into account that things may change again before September, anyway.

Anyone that goes to one of these things unvaxxed is crazy. At the same time, most of these things suck so much in the best of circumstances, I can only imagine what it will be like to hang packed in with the great unwashed for hours on end in the summer *with* a mask on (like they'll even be able to enforce them anyway). Though at the least the mask might help with the dust and stink.
