it's really two albums, tbf, bundled together. most likely for chart reasons. just ignore the "deluxe edition" and listen to the original.

tho im listening to the deluxe disc right now and the future, 21, and keef songs are hitting pretty hard.

of course, listening to uzi is always an experience where i'm like 'this knocks, what's this one called?' only for me to find out that it's called 'yessirski'

digging urgency a lot. the concept and skits are so hilariously disconnected from the album tho, like to an extent I was literally lolling

the non deluxe version is a pretty great album

philly and Pennsylvania in general just seem so ... relevant for neo-america; its combination of urban decay contrasting with gentrification and its proximity to trump-country Appalachia makes it feel like a microcosm of forgotten usa. i feel like for this album it sort of contributes to this stylistic slurry of regional and popular styles and makes the emo blend in seamlessly. uzi's drugged out exuberance concealing pain, being vulnerable and aggressive at the same time, just feels very touching as we all slog through the long 2016. obviously, it's unsustainable, and the amount of young rappers dying lately is just so incredibly sad, and then those that do succeed being turned into anhedonic shells a la future or drake, it all just points to a sense that things need to slow the fuck down and that we need to disconnect from this hyper individualistic life

feels like we've reached the part of the year where there's just gobs and gobs of quality raps coming out every week. jackboy, baby smoove, wifigawd, rucci have been this week's highlights for me so far, but my 'new releases to check out' list is crazy long right about now.

jackboy album is good as hell. great knack for hooks and enough vocal acrobatics to keep things interesting. flow at about 1:00 reminds me of nothing less than 'i believe in a thing called love'
