Arsenal personnel who had recent close contact with Mikel will now self-isolate

That would be...all of them?

ShariVari, Thursday, 12 March 2020 22:25 (four years ago) link

Hudson-Odoi positive now too

sensible thing to do is write this season off and just use last year's top 4 as qualifiers for next season's CL

brave to assume there will be a next season

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Friday, 13 March 2020 03:44 (four years ago) link

Bournemouth & Everton join the list of likely infected clubs.

PL is going to be postponed until after the international break apparently.

groovypanda, Friday, 13 March 2020 10:43 (four years ago) link

All games off this weekend, PL season suspended til 4th of April

Number None, Friday, 13 March 2020 10:59 (four years ago) link

We're "four weeks behind Italy" so it'll return just as things really start to ramp up

groovypanda, Friday, 13 March 2020 11:02 (four years ago) link

It's not returning this season imo.

French league also suspended today.

ShariVari, Friday, 13 March 2020 11:04 (four years ago) link

yeah, this is just a band-aid

Good to see the WRU aren't worried about the close to 250,000 who'll be coming to Cardiff tomorrow to watch the rugby

Liverpool not getting the full coronation after all, just the corona bit

an old scouser friend of mine is in his early 50's and is convinced he is going to die because both his dad and one of his brothers died in their early 50's. last time I was drinking with him he said: "at least I get to see another league title before I croak it!"

baffled as to why this is still going ahead

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Friday, 13 March 2020 11:33 (four years ago) link

Old Firm derby just cancelled so think the Wales Scotland rugby match might be the only big sporting event in the entire world this weekend

groovypanda, Friday, 13 March 2020 11:53 (four years ago) link

Insane that the rugby hasn't been cancelled yet.

Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 13 March 2020 12:00 (four years ago) link

Cheltenham is still going

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Friday, 13 March 2020 12:06 (four years ago) link

london marathon been cancelled yet? i know that i'm a sweating, snotty mess at the end of most runs, no way i'd want to share facilities with 40,000 other people in a similar state tbh. brighton marathon (still on, also in april, 12,000 runners) have been offering additional places to people who were going to be doing the now-cancelled barcelona marathon and can't face the thought of just giving it a miss and maybe going for a run by themselves instead

ymo sumac (NickB), Friday, 13 March 2020 12:09 (four years ago) link

also i know that my immune system is in bits for a few hours if not weeks after doing a marathon, really great time for catching a dose of something

ymo sumac (NickB), Friday, 13 March 2020 12:12 (four years ago) link

FAW have just cancelled matches at all levels until 4th April which affects my daughter's U12 games and son's U11 ones. (https://www.faw.cymru/en/news/faw-statement-domestic-football/)

Rugby still on though smdh

groovypanda, Friday, 13 March 2020 13:16 (four years ago) link

Old Firm derby just cancelled

Now I know things are really serious.

God gave toilets rolls to you, gave toilet rolls to you (Tom D.), Friday, 13 March 2020 13:26 (four years ago) link

Can't see things restarting for a long time. Possibly restart the season in a year's time, trying to pick up where we left off (though many clubs could have gone under by then).

gotta say i was really looking forward to the spurs v manu game this weekend, think mou's boys might've taken a bit of a mauling

ymo sumac (NickB), Friday, 13 March 2020 13:51 (four years ago) link

Ive a ticket for the Liverpool v Villa game in April :(

I'd say flights are going to be cancelled soon too

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Friday, 13 March 2020 13:52 (four years ago) link

If we can't restart in August or September as normal then things are really going to be very bad indeed.

Matt DC, Friday, 13 March 2020 14:17 (four years ago) link

IMO let's just create one super season. add this year's points into last year, like 60 match season. see if Liverpool can still win the Premiership with their current cushion.

also relegate Arsenal

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Friday, 13 March 2020 14:19 (four years ago) link

If the government's right and other European nations are going to be in the middle of a second, worse spike around the summer, i can't see any major sporting competitions taking place, even if the UK isn't as badly hit.

ShariVari, Friday, 13 March 2020 14:21 (four years ago) link

Rugby now off but Cardiff already full of Scots

groovypanda, Friday, 13 March 2020 14:43 (four years ago) link

Posh Scots though, so there'll no' be any bother.

God gave toilets rolls to you, gave toilet rolls to you (Tom D.), Friday, 13 March 2020 14:44 (four years ago) link

This is how the Black Death ended up in Scotland though, it was plague-free until some Scots decided to have a bit of a marauder over the border.

Only sensible thing is to refuse re-entry to all rugger fans. Need to take no chances.

West Ham and Tottenham want the Premier League season completely cancelled and rendered null and void. Is the right thing for the wrong reason still the right thing? #Covid19

Number None, Friday, 13 March 2020 16:56 (four years ago) link

it's nonsensical this far into the season and with Liverpool so far at the top to just render the season null and void. if they need to why don't they just postpone the games until later in the year and then have a shorter championship next year.

COVID and the Gang (jim in vancouver), Friday, 13 March 2020 16:59 (four years ago) link

so if they postpone the games until later in the year, when does next season start?

Number None, Friday, 13 March 2020 17:00 (four years ago) link

Blimey, that guy has some strong feelings about Cheltenham xps

groovypanda, Friday, 13 March 2020 17:10 (four years ago) link

he's right though

it's grotesque that it went ahead

― Number None, Friday, March 13, 2020 10:00 AM (twenty-three minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

honestly they could just do a short season, start it near the end of the year

As much as I dislike Liverpool, Klopp seems like such a class act

Jürgen Klopp has today issued the following message to supporters.https://t.co/nBeTrwILJs

that's a whole other can of worms

Split the prem into two different leagues?

ymo sumac (NickB), Friday, 13 March 2020 17:31 (four years ago) link

would be a possibility to do each team playing each other once. you would have each team play the same amount of home and away games and determine it randomly. you could also do every team plays each other once then do something similar to the split in Scottish football https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_Premier_League#Split

there is absolutely no way to play a shorter season that wont raise more issues than it solves

there was no league winner, thats it. thats the post.
