Barnes appears on ESPN lately?

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 12 March 2020 16:33 (four years ago) link

yeah he's been on quite a bit today, both First Take and Get Up

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 12 March 2020 16:37 (four years ago) link

gobert was just acting like a doofus, not intentionally trying to hurt people. he's undoubtedly going to be synonymous with a pandemic for the rest of his life.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 12 March 2020 16:50 (four years ago) link

I'm kind of over idiots putting other ppl at risk

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 12 March 2020 16:52 (four years ago) link

there are bigger idiots putting more people at more risk than gobert, even if you just confine it to "things that happened last night"!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 12 March 2020 16:56 (four years ago) link

but yes, he was acting casually like a doofus. i guess there but for the grace of god? i'm terrified of being a vector for this shit.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 12 March 2020 16:58 (four years ago) link

his is probably the most high profile person at this point

Thybulle on the Dash (Spottie), Thursday, 12 March 2020 17:00 (four years ago) link

I mean fine he's not Hitler but I could really give not a single solitary shit about poor Rudy Gobert

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 12 March 2020 17:03 (four years ago) link

he's a dumb rich person who is already receiving the best possible medical care

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 12 March 2020 17:04 (four years ago) link

he was ready to play last night...

Thybulle on the Dash (Spottie), Thursday, 12 March 2020 17:04 (four years ago) link

serious question should I pick up KD in fantasy

frogbs, Thursday, 12 March 2020 18:59 (four years ago) link

most leagues should block transactions.

Thybulle on the Dash (Spottie), Thursday, 12 March 2020 19:00 (four years ago) link

I'll be really surprised if they don't wind up canceling the entire season. I read an estimate today suggesting that the apex of the virus will be in early June.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Thursday, 12 March 2020 19:51 (four years ago) link

...which means the Bucks win the title, right?? Right???

frogbs, Thursday, 12 March 2020 19:52 (four years ago) link

welp

The NCAA has canceled the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments and March Madness.

man

Thybulle on the Dash (Spottie), Thursday, 12 March 2020 20:18 (four years ago) link

its one thing to cancel the tournaments but must they also cancel the madness

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 March 2020 20:20 (four years ago) link

Ya cancel culture running amok

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 12 March 2020 20:25 (four years ago) link

madness is certainly not canceled

ooga booga-ing for the bourgeoisie (voodoo chili), Thursday, 12 March 2020 20:26 (four years ago) link

Maybe too early... So the dubs were light years ahead to take this season off?

that's not my post, Thursday, 12 March 2020 21:33 (four years ago) link

they shd give everyone in the league a champ ring except rudy gobert

lag∞n, Thursday, 12 March 2020 21:40 (four years ago) link

I'm glad it was a French dude lol

congrats to the knicks!

today we are all gladwell

Malcolm Gladwell, continuing his recent string of deeply problematic and weird takes, suggested on Simmons' podcast today that NBA players could be tested daily and live in a bubble and keep the season going

Ehhhhh no one has any idea. I think you just do the playoffs whenever seasonality kicks in.

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 13 March 2020 03:14 (four years ago) link

Like China is starting up basketball again. Will we accomplish what they have? Probably not. But who knows?

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 13 March 2020 03:14 (four years ago) link

china can easily regress if they relax precautions too soon

micah, Friday, 13 March 2020 03:35 (four years ago) link

even tho it sucks this is kinda the best time for the NBA to go away if it had to, insofar as it's close to the part of the season where everyone wants to press fast forward anyway

J0rdan S., Friday, 13 March 2020 03:37 (four years ago) link

saw someone . . . not praising gobert's dumb ass, but grateful because his stupidity got the whole public health response going

mookieproof, Friday, 13 March 2020 03:52 (four years ago) link

It did feel like a Tipping Point. Talking to Strangers you got the idea that everyone thought China and Italy were Outliers. Gobert finally made them Blink.

Fetchboy, Friday, 13 March 2020 04:42 (four years ago) link

A real six degrees of rudy gobert situation

100% agree with this

k3vin k., Friday, 13 March 2020 10:12 (four years ago) link

feel like Gobert and then Tom Hanks testing positive really changed the mood

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 13 March 2020 13:41 (four years ago) link

tipping point, yes. All of New York fell down the next day.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 13 March 2020 17:03 (four years ago) link

I think the immediate freak out and the clearing of the arena was a major “it’s here and right in the middle of us” moment.

omar little, Friday, 13 March 2020 17:12 (four years ago) link

thankful for the nba's/silver's swift and decisive action. set a precedent the other less progressive leagues (*ahem* ncaa) needed to follow.

ooga booga-ing for the bourgeoisie (voodoo chili), Friday, 13 March 2020 17:24 (four years ago) link

they did let the warriors play two games at oracle with a sign posted saying that attending the game could increase your risk of contracting coronavirus, and they did have owners ready to defy local gov't recommendations until a player literally tested positive right before tipoff.

call all destroyer, Friday, 13 March 2020 17:34 (four years ago) link

yeah the NBA was pretty delinquent. not as bad as the college conferences but still pretty bad... it was very weird watching the end of the heat-hornets game knowing that the okc-jazz game had just been emergency canceled over a player related virus scare. and by some stroke of luck or power they were just able to get gobert tested before the game or else he was going to play, which would’ve been a huge disaster... to say nothing of the fact that he definitely played while being infected but asymptomatic

J0rdan S., Friday, 13 March 2020 17:48 (four years ago) link

fair enough. im not sure a player testing positive would've convinced the nfl to cancel the season, tbh.

ooga booga-ing for the bourgeoisie (voodoo chili), Friday, 13 March 2020 17:53 (four years ago) link

if this hit in, say, september/october

ooga booga-ing for the bourgeoisie (voodoo chili), Friday, 13 March 2020 17:54 (four years ago) link

play through paindemic

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 13 March 2020 17:54 (four years ago) link

In retrospect the idea of continuing the season was always insane. At some point a player was going to get sick and it’s a sport with a ton of personal contact.

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 13 March 2020 21:06 (four years ago) link

yeah

brilliant how the players -- even rookies -- are out here pledging money for part-time staffers while the billionaire owners do nothing

mookieproof, Friday, 13 March 2020 21:38 (four years ago) link

yes what shitheads

lag∞n, Friday, 13 March 2020 21:40 (four years ago) link

and yeah of course the nba prioritized profit first, but they did go first and honestly acted pretty quickly after the positive test. any other league would have waited until at least the next day to poll all the owners

mookieproof, Friday, 13 March 2020 21:40 (four years ago) link

New Orleans' Zion Williamson says he is pledging to cover the salaries for all of the Pelicans arena staff workers for the next 30 days.
