its 'conceptual' in that "they say you can't buy love, they lyin" is something that the narrator feels at that moment but i dont think the-dream = the narrator, per se

zzz (deej), Wednesday, 24 June 2009 22:26 (fourteen years ago) link

like its all part of an overarching concept section of the record

zzz (deej), Wednesday, 24 June 2009 22:27 (fourteen years ago) link

the song is certainly conceptual

one of my favorite parts on the whole album is right at the beginning of "right side of my brain" when his voice is suuuuper autotuned and he goes "fell in love with a real heartbreaker/ and there's nothing i can dooo, to shake her" - part gets stuck in my head all the time

― s1ocked up, they won't let me out (J0rdan S.)

yesssss. this was my favorite part of the album the first time i listened to it

Trailer for The-Dream's new track Hit It On The Road" from his "Love vs. Money: The Hangover (Extended Version)"

s1ocked up, they won't let me out (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 25 June 2009 05:18 (fourteen years ago) link

this doesn't sound good at all - the "diva" beat with a chorus sung by soulja boy

s1ocked up, they won't let me out (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 25 June 2009 05:18 (fourteen years ago) link

weird idea, i guess it's good that they're committed to still pushing the album even though sales haven't been huge -- enough room on the disc that they could add 4 or 5 new songs

"Love vs. Money: The Hangover (Extended Version)"

which track gets the alternate Galifianakis vid?

maciej recognizing trill, Thursday, 25 June 2009 06:53 (fourteen years ago) link

My fav is still "Take U Home 2 My Mama" tho. the backup-Dream doubling the lines stuff is super fun, especially "..cuz I'm already gone (I'm already nyeeah)"

maciej recognizing trill, Thursday, 25 June 2009 06:55 (fourteen years ago) link

it's selling pretty well isn't it? it's gonna out sell love/hate by a bunch at least

they should just release "mr yeah" instead of this thing

s1ocked up, they won't let me out (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 25 June 2009 07:00 (fourteen years ago) link

400k in 3 months, not bad but nothing special, still 150k behind the first album.

curvy argentinian mistress (some dude), Thursday, 25 June 2009 13:20 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't listen to this album outside of "RSoM/Mr. Yeah" anymore. Going with "Mr. Yeah" mainly because of the chorus and the outro. Can't decide if the bridge is just dead weight, or needed in order to contrast with that brilliant outro, which I think is 1. the best 10 seconds of The-Dream ever and 2. a metonym for The-Dream's style

The 400 LOLs (dyao), Thursday, 25 June 2009 13:39 (fourteen years ago) link

"Right side", easy. otm about the intro being great. this track embodies everything I like about dream.
my second best would be "take you home".
somehow, I like "fancy" but almost never want to listen to it...

AleXTC, Thursday, 25 June 2009 14:20 (fourteen years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Saturday, 27 June 2009 23:01 (fourteen years ago) link

the "brrrriiiiing" after the first "take you home to my mama, home to my mama, home to my mama, yeah" is the best single sound on "take you home 2 my mama."

samosa gibreel, Saturday, 27 June 2009 23:06 (fourteen years ago) link

so many good sounds on this record. the synth trumpet on "rockin' that shit"!

haha these results are mostly ok w/ me. wish love vs $ pt 2 got more votes

johnny crunch, Sunday, 28 June 2009 23:04 (fourteen years ago) link

Pretty surprised @ these results! "right side" is great and a deserving winner, but who voted "walkin on the moon?"

so did I, although all the "Fancy" talk upthread persuaded me to move the thing into my iPod after several months. Thanks, thread!

My name is Kenny! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 28 June 2009 23:21 (fourteen years ago) link

walking on the moon? huh?

I would have figured Right Side > Fancy > Rocking That Shit > something from the Mama/LvM Suit > My Love

Walking on the Moon is such an eh track.

MTLiens (Alex in Montreal), Sunday, 28 June 2009 23:22 (fourteen years ago) link

I considered "My Love" for a while - it was my favourite track on the album when it came out, but I feel like I played it out pretty quick. It really needs one more verse or something. It feels strangely lacking somehow.

MTLiens (Alex in Montreal), Sunday, 28 June 2009 23:23 (fourteen years ago) link

h8 walking on the moon

zzz (deej), Sunday, 28 June 2009 23:56 (fourteen years ago) link

i love fancy now

cutty, Monday, 29 June 2009 01:57 (fourteen years ago) link

Will anyone own up to being the oddballs voting for "Walking On The Moon".

Tim F, Monday, 29 June 2009 02:05 (fourteen years ago) link

Haha -- "Walking On the Moon" did OK in the Stylus jukebox a couple of weeks ago. Stand up and be counted, knaves.

My name is Kenny! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 29 June 2009 02:19 (fourteen years ago) link

forgot to vote in this, but the right song won.

us_odd_bunny_lady (tipsy mothra), Monday, 29 June 2009 02:37 (fourteen years ago) link

didnt vote 4 it, but dont mind it at all

johnny crunch, Monday, 29 June 2009 02:41 (fourteen years ago) link

Neither do I but the idea that it's the best thing on there is totally o_O

Tim F, Monday, 29 June 2009 03:34 (fourteen years ago) link

agreed, but going back and listening to it again, it actually is really incredible. the last minute especially, from "right side of my brain" through the woah-oh-oh's has so many neat little layered sounds that all contribute alot.

samosa gibreel, Monday, 29 June 2009 03:55 (fourteen years ago) link

These poll results are screwed. "Walking on the Moon" has got to be the bottom of the album, but it's second on this poll? How did "Put It Down" only get two votes?

nothinbutcuts, Monday, 29 June 2009 05:26 (fourteen years ago) link

Heh, I voted for Walking On The Moon because I thought nobody else was going to, and it cheerfully reminds me 50s generic happy modern machine music/Joe Meek stuff I've been listening to a lot this year. I totally blank the Kanye verse tho.

etc, Monday, 29 June 2009 05:51 (fourteen years ago) link

I have to admit, I voted for "Walkin On The Moon". On an album full of great tracks, it's the one I keep coming back to. I like the spongy synths, and I LOVE Kanye's verse. I also think it also has the sweetest reverie and the most beautiful chord change on the album, in "I'd pull down a cloud for you/I'd circle the stars and bring you one back...".

Dan S, Monday, 29 June 2009 05:54 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm a sucker for those kind've fizzy strings - DJed this into Metro Area's "Miura" at a party to pretty great effect.

etc, Monday, 29 June 2009 06:10 (fourteen years ago) link

'love vs money pt 2' being the only proper track to get 0 is more o_0 than 'walking on the moon' getting a handful, wtf people the orchestration alone

haven't heard the mixtape but i think i like the joint w/keri hilson, on one listen

lex pretend, Monday, 29 June 2009 08:11 (fourteen years ago) link

yay for "right side". but the best thing on the album might actually be the transition from the end of "fancy" to the end of the intro of "right side" (basically, when the beat starts).
I also love how dream harmonizes with himself throughout "right side", going higher every time.

AleXTC, Monday, 29 June 2009 10:48 (fourteen years ago) link

wish I'd voted for lvmpt2 now, can't remember if I voted right side of my brain or fancy
