He was set off because he knows who would be in trouble if society went authoritarian, maybe especially “for the good of public health.” I actually agree with what Mordy said on that thread—there is an interesting academic discussion to be had about the potential pitfalls of democracy, but not on the pandemic thread. It seemed opportunistic.

We can all be 'set off' by stuff, but when a poster is breaking down like in the posts I quoted (seriously, they're from a twenty minute span) then the problem isn't whoever set it off. Silby needs a break.

I have to say I appreciate Sanpaku for bringing some texture and variety to things around here. I find his posts amusing at worst but never boring, and I don't really care if his posts are factually accurate (though I suspect that by and large they are) because I'm not, like, legislating or anything.

Also I'm not so suggestible that I want to pull on a hazmat suit or buy gold or whatever after reading one. My main thought is usually, "Oh, Sanpaku."

Because he is ignorant, he credulously links to alarmist headlines calling covid “a combination of SARS and AIDS” on flimsy and idiotic pretexts and cites obvious charlatans nobody else pays any heed to as his major sources of news.
