i splurged on the split with inca ore on discogs a few days ago - it just came in. man, "poison tree" is soooo good

oh man, I found that one completely randomly at honest johns in London a few years ago, one of the best record store kismet experiences I've ever had. such a great split and yeah "poison tree" is one of her best.

there is probably a better one on there! "felt this way" was a song on a 7" they put out before the album. i only gave the album maybe 1.5 listens, and none of it struck me in the same way, but i should have given it more time!

also hard to overlook the Raum album, god it's all so good

'Felt This Way' is great and I clearly need to listen to that Helen record some more but that playlist I put together is a) all Grouper and, even for Harris, the more bleached-out, narcotic version - might be a bit bombastic! (I'd happily have added the whole Nivhek album, tbh.)

longer actually, a man who died in his boat was all outtakes from dragging a dead deer up a hill, so it's the first time she's recorded new stuff on acoustic guitar since the sessions for both those albums in 2007-8

it's mostly acoustic guitar-based but in a folkier way than before, probably most similar to ruins except with acoustic guitar instead of piano. there's some other dronier tracks too, of course

so, to me that sounds in the direction of Dragging a Dead Deer -- is it like that?

"unclean mind" is the closest to ddad, the other acoustic guitar tracks are a different style, folkier with slow picking. it works really well

maybe a touch of Tiny Vipers / Mirrorring

yeah it's pretty reminiscent of some of the stuff on foreign body

“Ode to the Blue” has utterly captivated me these past few days … such quiet intensity. I hope the rest of the album mostly sounds like this

First listen to the new album. I wonder what people will make of this in 50 or 100 years? Will they think we finally found the correct equipment for recording hauntings? This is beautiful and captivating but, to mix metaphors, it is like watching someone slowly fade out of existence.

Kelso is so good. Aside from the otherworldly Paradise Valley tunes, as pretty as anything I've heard from her.

it's her best since AIA, not counting Paradise Valley - wish there was a whole album's worth of that
