The Best Song on The-Dream's Love vs. Money

oh i prob meant to post this somewhere but the-dream agrees with what rev said somewhere else about 'take u home 2 my mama' secretly being a country song.

'walkin on the moon' is a fine track, i really like that the first third of the album consists of exquisitely executed generic radio jams w/glittering star cameos, kanye and mariah just doing what they do - lays the groundwork nicely for the album's lurch into WHOA blowing my mind territory. i even love the first half of kanye's verse - "i swear god must've made lightning strike and bottled it up, it hit the red carpet and modelled it up" is so great. pity he totally undoes it all immediately with "after i pound you" ughhhhh.

i think the one i turn to most if i just want to her one song rather than the whole album is 'mr yeah'

lol...i actually think the supposed (but will probably never happen) kanye/dream joint album could be dope, if kanye brings tricky/los into his production team. imo the-dream vox >>>> kanye autotune

pretty epic build & release on that one.

love the racing torrent of strings just before the drums answer where he says stuff like "they say love cant buy money / they're lying"

i'll try to get into it. i usually skip it.

yeah it's def a song that took me a few listens to appreciate. the drums at the end are fucking huge and awesome

"every one out there will know that you are my girl" is probably my favourite melody on the album.

loooooooool this is so otm - this continuously puzzles me and i always think to myself "you know what im not going to even bother looking up the lyrics"

as for "fancy", like everyone says it's such a great slow-burner of a song that it gets to the point where merely the addition of the drums ups the drama of the album immensely - also "fancy" is so integral because it really is like dream is building up this great love life of jet setting and fucking in gucci stores and then he totally tears it down with "right side of my brain" - the two songs are really important to each other. and then "mr yeah" is like "fuck it!! girls are awesome im the best at fucking!!!" and then "mr yeah" ends the album in his bedroom <3

i agree that he's a retard for not releasing "sweat it out" or "put it down" but idk about "mr yeah" - it's definitely a great summer pop song but i think it might remind too many people of "touch my body" to really be a huge success

i just listened again and this part is so incredible - it's right around 50 seconds - def the most impassioned vocal performance of dream's career, if that even means anything

he does put some serious emotion into that song that makes it pretty next level.

"right side" has grown on me in a big way -- never did listen to the demo of it that people on here used to talk about, is it really that different or essential to hear?

i uploaded the "right side of my brain" demo - it's pretty great in it's own right but it's amazing to listen to it knowing how elaborate and intense of a song it turned into

idk if it's "essential" it just has a different tone - it's more somber and less cathartic, there aren't those huge drums, just these sad piano chords and the beat boxing

yeah this didn't make it into the piece but he was basically bragging about how he could make any style of song, and he said "i could even do a country song, hell i already done a country song" - i was like ".....take u home 2 my mama???" and he said yeah.

Sweat It Out or Right Side of My Brain although Rockin that shit is pretty unfuckwithable largely due to the unusually impacting roll out of the Gorilla thing

Totally agree w/ this. I always listen to these as pair. In fact I can't listen to one w/o the other which makes this vote hard. Probably go w/ RSoMB though.

im more interested in hearing your objections to it! i mean musically like i said the build-> release is kinda flawless & real cinematic, the way the accordion comes in at one pt, the imagery about making love at the end of the world over the swooping strings during the rap section, the way the drums hammer in at its peak ... all kinda amazing

unless yr objection is conceptual, about money buying love or whatever

which is kind of contradicted by the rest of the record -- i guess out of context its a pretty superficial track but its emotions feel very genuine, and are later undercut by the reality of 'right side of your brain'

i guess it sounds like a lot of effort put into something sort of empty to me? like, the story he tells is well-told and it sounds pretty, but the story itself leaves me kind of cold? i guess that's kind of conceptual, yeah.

i would vote for take you home to my mama maybe. i like the first album better, i have to admit.

no i will vote for Kelly's 12-Play. i think maybe i just don't fully get this album; the way y'all talked about "fancy" and "right side of my brain" in the ne-yo v. the dream thread made me think i was missing something.

i don't really care for "Fancy" either fwiw, not my least favorite song but i feel like the title track(s) and "right side" hit that spot for me a lot better

although when i tried to find a lyrics site that had that reading of it, it also said "put your black baby down" which is pretty lol
