i had the same exact experience with a friend who was into Perturbator (he also likes Umberto) and have been able to get him more into EBM through Kontravoid and SARIN, he also really likes the spotify playlist that i shared above. i think the trick for converting people that are already cool with vaguely gothic electronic music is to not go too techno too fast, start with boy harsher, kontravoid, etc. soon enough they will learn to love the brutal snare+kick and forget silly melodies

good thread!

I've got my own spotify playlist where I've been accumulating this kind of stuff here, though I'm not sure all of it fits:

just now getting around to alessandro adriani's album from last year and it's soooo good. he loves to churn your brain around with rapidly panning staticky textures

as an aside, recent DK live album is not thread appropriate but is great

the dude is stylistically all over the place! loved his first EP. “the goddess is dancing” from last year is pretty cool too!

brimstead, Wednesday, 18 March 2020 18:12 (six months ago) link

yeah, he is! there's a certain lightness to his sound that is a constant between styles though

die orangen is kris baha and dreems' industrial kraut band (with a lot of references to the australian outback which i'm indifferent to,) this track rules

f yeah, catching up on this thread is gonna be fun. and not to self-promote but 100% of the tracks from my last post in the 'djs post yr mixes for downloads' thread belong here, most from this and last year.

i'm especially excited to find wonderful crossover material between UK bass and new beat, recently.

ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Thursday, 6 August 2020 02:49 (one month ago) link

i think he leans toward the mutant lo-fi LIES techno end but still fits into the vibe. he records tons of stuff and some is more EBM, something like this fits for sure

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 6 August 2020 14:07 (one month ago) link

he's on a new LIES comp this week!

but yeah, more toward the lo-fi electronics/noize-crossover realm.

solo scampito (mh), Saturday, 8 August 2020 16:17 (one month ago) link

speaking of LIES, ron morelli with a bit of the EBM on this ep

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Saturday, 8 August 2020 17:51 (one month ago) link

also excited about this teste comp on lies

While there's some Beau Wanzer chat, a shamelessly off-topic question - does anyone know what the "weird Belgian record" (no idea if actually Belgian) from about 1:10-4:40 on this DJ Speculator show with Beau Wanzer?

lots of good stuff itt, particularly liked Architectural

L. Prague de Scamp (a passing spacecadet), Saturday, 8 August 2020 23:08 (one month ago) link

hmm, that track didn't sound familiar to me. looks like people have been wondering what it is for quite a while
