Why do people leave ILX for good?

well, fuck it, i've done my part to increase the number of women _and_ decrease the number of men posting here

of course offering money to posters is a fairly clueless solution - first off y'all can't afford my rates, second off i guarantee you spend enough time even talking about the idea and some asshole will jump out of the woodwork with some bullshit argument about how i "shouldn't count".

I'm always completely... fine with people leaving? Like "kudos to you, you managed to get out of here." I don't desire this myself, but I can see why one would, for so many reasons.

I’m out.

I found ilx in ‘03 and have since been a daily lurker and occasional poster. I’ve learned so much here from ilxors like Milton Parker, dylannn, John D4rni3lle, Sund4r, Scott Seward, momus, Ta-Nehisi Coates, and even deej.

Where have they all gone?

Maybe I’m old or too sensitive but I feel increasingly at odds with nearly everyone here. I don’t want to be unkind to anyone so I’ll stay quiet.

I don't think Coates posted enough to count, leaving us with seven ilxors. Four are ostensibly still active to varying degrees, which is more than 50% over a period of almost two decades. That's a pretty good percentage, right? Certainly not enough to warrant a 'where are the snows of yesteryear?'-type lament. Sounds like your main reasons for self-ejecting lie elsewhere, Yelp.

I recently ran into one of TNC's posts while doing an ilx search on an unrelated purpose. Surprised me to see the name used in a year prior to TNC becoming well known. It was articulate, pointed, but nothing deathless, much like your somewhat above-average ilx post.

Might spend the 20th anniversary looking up TNC's ilx posts. They must've had a lot of wisdom in them for a lurker/occasional poster to remember them in his goodbye post 17 years later.

He was born in 2003, which was also roughly the time frame when I first joined, although my posting history suggests it was later. I must've lurked for a while.

what happened in 04 that so many ppl seem to have found this place? That's when I got here but can't recall how.

I don't remember exactly how I found it. I was very active on the Stereolab forum around then, and that may well have been what led me here.
