That is truly beautiful. Halleluyer!

oh that kind of explains why one of the celebrity quotes in the between-scenes slideshow was Tyler Perry saying something like "I can't say I ever actually enjoyed playing Madea."

No less convinced that Tim & Gregg see one week into the future:

Fully binging my way into this I guess. On S3. i love how Gregg just totally shuts down and submits when Tim is berating him.

Swilling Ambergris, Esq. (silby), Monday, 24 February 2020 05:50 (four years ago) link

Finally watched the Oscar special. Goddamn it they keep topping themselves.

Ok bloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 24 February 2020 11:31 (four years ago) link

wondering what kind of scam Tim is trying to pull on Toni, making her sign the annulment quickly and then changing his last name for some reason

also is it implied that he slept with the pastor? the way he kept looking at her instead of Toni...yeeesh

something I just realized now (which I think was supposed to be obvious all along) is that the name of the character in the new Joker is Arthur, something which somehow goes unremarked upon the entire special

frogbs, Monday, 24 February 2020 14:45 (four years ago) link

Thought it was a nice touch that he called Ayaka the love of his life immediately before getting (re-)married to a different woman.

Expart of Languidge (Old Lunch), Monday, 24 February 2020 14:49 (four years ago) link

"I'm Tim's favorite wife, right?"

"Well you're definitely the most recent"

lmaooo

frogbs, Monday, 24 February 2020 14:56 (four years ago) link

I enjoyed that Gregg did like 20 seconds of actual interviewing and we learnt something about Russell Brand

imago, Monday, 24 February 2020 14:57 (four years ago) link

ok I replayed the annulment scene and Toni mentions something like 'oh we're gonna have to get a new pre-nup'

I *think* Joe suggested during the "debt forgiveness special" that they should close down HEI Inc and reopen under a new name

frogbs, Monday, 24 February 2020 15:16 (four years ago) link

lmao the debt forgiveness special

it never stops being funny

My read is that he sincerely loves Toni (or at least thinks he does) but he just can’t stop scheming and using people and chasing the next shiny thing.

just gonna leave this here so you can watch it over and over

Tim comes pretty close to breaking

frogbs, Monday, 24 February 2020 15:28 (four years ago) link

Hahaha I also noticed the “quartet” have a hard time keeping a straight face at several points throughout the special

Ok bloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 24 February 2020 15:36 (four years ago) link

Especially the part where he’s berating then for not knowing “Pop Goes the Weasel”

Ok bloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 24 February 2020 15:38 (four years ago) link

i'm not sure if they were entirely in on the joke

frogbs, Monday, 24 February 2020 15:44 (four years ago) link

Yeah, the musicians on the last couple Oscar specials have come closest to puncturing the illusion. One of the dudes from last year's kinda drove me nuts with his excessively-hammy 'I'M LIKE SO SCARED OF TIM RIGHT NOW!' mugging.

Expart of Languidge (Old Lunch), Monday, 24 February 2020 15:45 (four years ago) link

I feel like Tim & co. would probably take great pains to let the musicians and impersonators know what's up ahead of time. Like, he's not gonna start vehemently abusing people who don't know he's just fucking around.

Expart of Languidge (Old Lunch), Monday, 24 February 2020 15:47 (four years ago) link

Unless he's legitimately hoping to get a rap in the mouth as extra seasoning.

Expart of Languidge (Old Lunch), Monday, 24 February 2020 15:48 (four years ago) link

i love the lameness of "it's movie time!" and how much gregg relishes it

didn't one of them provide the backing vocals to the acoustic empty bottle?

diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Monday, 24 February 2020 16:57 (four years ago) link

this special was really something. nice that gregg now has some deaths on his hands

frederik b. godt (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 25 February 2020 21:19 (four years ago) link

the last 15 minutes of that must've been really cool to see live, they hold that shot just long enough to convince you that this is the end of On Cinema, before Axiom single-handedly (lol) saves the show

frogbs, Tuesday, 25 February 2020 21:52 (four years ago) link

could really use some of this right about now

one month passes...

Mark Proksch interview.

Between K-Strass and Good Morning Tri-State, what draws you to morning news shows?

It’s everywhere, so everyone can relate to it. It’s also the closest thing we have to amateur television that’s on every single day. Especially in smaller towns, there’s a realness there, where the person who went to high school with you is now the weatherwoman. There’s that familiarity that is interesting to me. Playing around in that local-news world is really fun.

That’s what makes us all laugh. We’ve been doing these watch parties every Saturday night — me, Tim, Gregg, Jason Woliner, Fielder — where we’re watching dumb stuff, awful YouTube videos and such. The real world is infinitely funnier than anything that anyone could script.

Randomly watching some videos of Cambodian-American rock band Dengue Fever, who I used to be pretty into up until about 7-8 years ago, and gobsmacked by the realization that the lead guitarist is Dr. San:

from upthread On Cinema at the Cinema on ilxor.com:

Does the Tim & Eric thread discus who Dr. San is IRL?

Gregg & Zac were former roommates & Gregg put out Zac's former band (dieselhed)'s records 25+ years ago.

Ha, I totally missed that!

It was such an odd feeling all of a sudden unexpectedly being confronted with Dr. San talking and acting like a normal person, really speaks to how real that fake world feels
