I couldn't front in the end. Rodrigo's Spanish slab of schlock is the one of these I've listened to the most.

Some of the most enjoyable schlock there is tbf. I wouldn't have included it otherwise.

Surprised no one nailed 95 theses about how my deliberate omission of Carmina burana is proof positive that this poll series is an exercice in elitist corruption.

We all knew that from the very first poll though 😉

(I will say that my tour de force performance on the timpani during the West Sussex youth symphonic wind band’s performance of CB back in the day is the stuff of legend)

Probably more like I just didn’t remember what decade CB came out in.

As a young child CB was etched into my brain as "the theme from Old Spice" so I could never take it seriously even before the nazi shit. It's probably objectively good tho, or at least Magma wouldn't have existed without it.

i sang in CB as a teenager, this is the passage i remember most clearly: "trilirivos trilirivos trilirivos"

a translation page says this word "defies analysis"

It's crypto-fascist Latin iirc.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

Not a single vote for the Berg Concerto? Madness! And I allowed it to happen!

It was on my shortlist.

I keep favouring things I've previously underrated instead. The Schoenberg, I think, in this case. I enjoyed getting (better) acquainted with the Revueltas, Falla, Szymanowski, Crawford Seeger and Britten as well. I suspect I spent more time listening to this 50 than any other!

I’m on the winning team for once!

No Magma without carmina burana means no Magma without les noces...

valet doberman (Jon not Jon), Thursday, 20 February 2020 00:39 (four years ago) link

A worthy winner, to be sure.
