the return of 7 of 9 should be good, but it wasn't dignified and quite bodged. i don't expect her to say that old maverick pilot *classic* "you owe me a ship, Picard" that is a Lieutenant Starbuck type line!
― calzino, Sunday, 16 February 2020 02:12 (three years ago) link
it is absolutely absurd that anyone would call him 'JL'
― mookieproof, Sunday, 16 February 2020 02:33 (three years ago) link
including you, leee!
― mookieproof, Sunday, 16 February 2020 02:34 (three years ago) link
The difference with me is that I used it ironically! Agreed that it is awful all the same.
― Charlotte Brontesaurus (Leee), Sunday, 16 February 2020 08:10 (three years ago) link
Yeah, I hate that as a touch. It's so Poochie.
― trishyb, Sunday, 16 February 2020 10:59 (three years ago) link
Yeah it’s too familiar & informal. I dislike it immensely
― terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 16 February 2020 15:51 (three years ago) link
"Please, it's pronounced 'Juul.'"
― Ned Raggett, Sunday, 16 February 2020 16:24 (three years ago) link
I don’t know, I’m really enjoying the klutzy, rambling pace, it makes the show seem more like comfort food to me, which is what I want from a trek show
― Chuck_Tatum, Sunday, 16 February 2020 17:54 (three years ago) link
I can imagine being called JL initially irritated Picard and that was part of their dynamic when they got along.
― mh, Sunday, 16 February 2020 18:01 (three years ago) link
The music is really weird and intrusive and makes this feel like a modern BBC show like Sherlock
― flamboyant goon tie included, Sunday, 16 February 2020 23:11 (three years ago) link
Sliding around on a Borg cube in your socks? No. That's not a thing.
When that bit happened my bf got a disgusted look on his face and muted the loud, overweening Titanic-romance music that started playing. BLEUGH what was the point of that scene. We get it, he's playing her.
― Stoop Crone (Trayce), Monday, 17 February 2020 05:48 (three years ago) link
But I'm enjoying this otherwise. I liked Seven's entrance, especially her falling down dizzily after she said it.
― Stoop Crone (Trayce), Monday, 17 February 2020 05:49 (three years ago) link
that scene was important to establish that there are still socks in the 24th century and it will pay off later in the show, possibly to universe-saving effect

Narek is the worst
― terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 17 February 2020 19:00 (three years ago) link
i thought that too but then there was that scene with his horny sister and now she is the worst
― adam, Monday, 17 February 2020 20:53 (three years ago) link
I want to give Narek a fucking shower, he looks blegh.

I share this important report.
#Picard is a tv show this is my report about itit has many themes, such as the following pic.twitter.com/VnOVL5TqGU— Anthony Oliveira (@meakoopa) February 18, 2020
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 03:16 (three years ago) link
Yeah, as much as the Han Solo McTerrible-Accents guy annoys me, he is super hot.
― trishyb, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 12:19 (three years ago) link
picard's undercover werner herzog impression is, like this show as a whole, bad
― adam, Friday, 21 February 2020 02:22 (three years ago) link
I thought he was sounding like a bad French stereotype, not a German one? Need to relisten
― mh, Friday, 21 February 2020 02:44 (three years ago) link
he was going for french and landed on herzog-in-jack-reacher imo
― adam, Friday, 21 February 2020 10:48 (three years ago) link

honh honh honh I have ze borg!
― mh, Friday, 21 February 2020 15:41 (three years ago) link
that was a really bizarre episode. parts of it were laughably bad - the lizard guy with the keen sense of smell seemed like he wandered in from The Orvilleand no idea what they were thinking with Picard's accent unless it was some sort of Holy Grail/Pink Panther tribute
― groovypanda, Friday, 21 February 2020 22:35 (three years ago) link
that lady had a pretty bad security system
― mookieproof, Friday, 21 February 2020 22:40 (three years ago) link
anyway this episode was Good because it was narek-and-twinless and with luck we've fulfilled our raffi backstory requirement

Bad!
gotta feel bad for brian brophy, who has now costarred as dr bruce maddox in both one of the greatest hours of television ever broadcast and whatever this pantomime nonsense was

counterpoint: it’s nonsense and weird and a missed opportunity, but I’ve enjoyed every episode

i think it’s pretty good but what do i know
― terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 22 February 2020 19:57 (three years ago) link
last ep was pure fetch quest, didn't advance the story (except for the last two minutes), dispensed with characters and locations we'd been led to expect more from, indulged in shallow world building, and was basically lacking in action, excitement, intrigue, moral dilemmas, blah blah. sorry but that's just how i feel. will keep watching.
― Paperbag raita (ledge), Saturday, 22 February 2020 20:04 (three years ago) link
tfw acclaim for yr genius finally arrives but it hinges on arcane knowledge of not just star trek but also one thread on one specific web forum’s one hidden board :/
― Generous Grant for Stepladder Creamery (bizarro gazzara), Saturday, 22 February 2020 20:05 (three years ago) link
i’m enjoying the show a fair bit despite its flaws and weird pacing but i think if you’re not already invested in picard as a character it’s probably not got a huge amount to offer
