i really love joe pera. if corporate is who i am then joe pera is who i aspire to be. so strange and funny and heartfelt.

i also really love succession. great acting but more importantly probably the funniest show on tv.

is that the dude from Faxed Head?

On Cinema is the definitive parody of Trumpian politics thus far and also maybe of toxic nerd culture.

yeah I mention it over and over in the thread but I feel like it's the one series that really captures those things in a way that's actually funny.

I really can't think of anyone in America has nailed the Trump mindset - the ugly and bizarre grievances and shameless behavior - like Tim Heidecker with his character here. So many other comedians seem to be hopelessly fumbling or doing surface-level stuff.

i sort of agree but "on cinema on defense" and "mt btl 3.0" were series highpoints

"the dude from Faxed Head" did a book signing in London and it was epic and we were there and now we have the On Cinema book

btw I was seriously on edge during the season finale because I really thought Tim was about to blow Toni's head off

Faxed Head included: Gregg T, Trey from Mr. Bungle, etc., and the main dude from Caroliner (though he got kicked out of the band at one point, and when we did the Faxed Head reunion show in 2013, that dude was kinda-sorta banned from the show on request from the other Faxed Heads).

it's a weirdly prescient show; the Electric Sun stuff predated the Fyre Festival docs and the vaping death storylines was years before that actually happened. not to mention that recent Elon Musk EDM single which is pretty much exactly DKR

On Cinema is...very hard to recommend. Because it's less a show than it is an experience, something you have to immerse yourself in completely to fully appreciate. As noted in the dedicated thread, I (like my T&E-loving friends who, as far as I know, still haven't taken the plunge) for the longest time was a little skeptical and kinda thought this was some ephemeral, mildly-amusing Heidecker side project that I could safely skip. But then I finally jumped into the heart of darkness with both feet last year and boy oh boy am I ever glad that I did.

basically what I'm saying is I fully expect Roger Stone to die of carbon monoxide poisoning in the next few years

I’ve never been a huge Tim & Eric fan but love On Cinema.

Haven't seen this year's On Cinema Oscar special yet, but the denouement of the last several have been spectacular, and last year's was possibly the most harrowing and unnerving thing I've seen in a while. Particularly for something that was also hilarious (see: Tim's all-time performance of 'Bohemian Rhapsody').

last year's was possibly the most harrowing and unnerving thing I've seen in a while

ol, they outdid themselves (again) this year

thought this season was a step back in a lot of ways but it's still very watchable.

I'm pissed at Fincher for pulling the plug on Mindhunter.

clear the decks for the basic crowdpleasers :P

mindhunter s2 was WAY better than s1 imho

btw if you aren't willing to jump into On Cinema you should at least check out Decker, I'm also impressed with how well Tim's able to capture that sort of ineptness without overtly doing that tired sort of "so bad it's good" humor we see everywhere now

Let's put it this way: if I wasn't relatively certain that the performer Tim Heidecker was a relatively sane and stable and functional person, the character of Tim Heidecker would make me very concerned for the safety and well-being of everyone in his orbit.

Decker was my intro to On Cinema (for those who don't know it's an incompetent action spin-off series created by Tim's character). But the Mr America movie is on Hulu now and might be a good capsule summary.

tim's deliberately shitty acting was on display for the last bit they did in the tim & eric live show they're touring right now, and god, i love it so much. the way he fucks up a line and then fucks it up way more by trying to correct himself... exquisite

ive read all your posts about on cinema and watched some of that youtube link posted above but i still have no clue what's going on. may need to start from scratch on it.

I liked that Holt's day-job provided absolutely no assistance with the difficulties presented in his home life, a nice indication of just how impotent they are overall

I had a harder time w. the doc's plot

Heidecker has said something to the effect that he has a tendency to trip over lines as a matter of course and that Decker is just a matter of really leaning hard into that tendency.
