Really, I always combined them into Sam Sheppard, actor and famous playwright. A double threat!

I used to combine Karen Ann Quinlan and Kathleen Quinlan, subconsciously thinking how nice that .the "girlfriend in a coma" survived and then had such success in Hollywood.

Then the columnist Anna Quindlen emerged and that broke my brain so I knew I had to get them all sorted.

Don’t forget novelists Ann Quin and Anna Kavan and throw in actress Anna Paquin for good measure.

Orbital and The Orb

To make matters more confusing, some early remixes by The Orb are titled "Orbital Mix". Took me a while to figure out it wasn't Orbital who'd done them.

I've never read Tolkien or seen the LOTR movies, and whenever I see a reference to Smeagol, my mind goes to Robert Smigel.

Somebody at the Times doesn’t know their Money Supermarket from their Money Saving Expert.

.@thetimes have incorrectly used my picture in the story that moneysupermarket group chief exec Mark Lewis is leaving.

To clarify I am not going anywhere and will continue as executive chair of MoneySavingExpert.

Andrew Farrell, Sunday, 23 February 2020 16:55 (four years ago) link

at least Minghella did a decent Highsmith adaptation (among a load of shite!) although it wasn't a patch on the 1960 one with Delon. Less said about Mendes the better.

Minghella's "Ripley" is amazing. *googles* ohhhhh Mendes did Skyfall and Spectre? yuck. I don't know why they didn't let Martin Campbell do several

Plein Soleil is my fave version, but I think they both fine tbh but let's be honest young alain delon>>>matt bloody damon!

calzino, Tuesday, 25 February 2020 14:14 (four years ago) link

I think both movies are good in different ways, the French one is sexier, while the Minghella one is more sociological. Plein soleil suffers from the forced "moral" ending though, which the newer one obviously doesn't have.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 25 February 2020 14:20 (four years ago) link

aye some bits of it didn't age well, but overall and I suppose aesthetically it is much more of an indelibly cool movie in my memory!

I grew up calling scallions 'spring onions' and have avoided that mix up.

"Well, that's shallot"
