Yep.

Not that it matters since plenty of other bands listed suffer from the same problem but The Beatles were nothing if not inconsistent.

Even their best albums have at least a couple of songs that genuinely suck.

Inconsistent at being imperfect, I think u mean.

great wham! songs: "everything she wants," "freedom," "careless whisper," "i'm your man," "the edge of heaven," "club tropicana," "heartbeat," "wake me up," "a different corner," "last christmas"

some amazing album tracks and b-sides too, especially 'Nothing Looks The Same In The Light' and 'Blue'

And why would we discount With The Beatles or Beatles for Sale, both which I hope never to revisit.

I can't think of a single artist who hasn't annoyed me or hasn't released mediocre work, and that's a good thing. One of the nominees here said best: "Looking for love in a looking-glass world/Is pretty hard for you."

As if on cue, my iPod delivers up a song by Charlotte Hatherley (likely my favorite musical artist of the 21st Century) that frankly kinda annoys the living eff out of me. It really is a thing, I'm afraid.

The Beatles are a great band with lots of excellent songs but about 30-40% of their material could be easily excised from their discography and nothing of value would be lost.

I used to pretend that Revolver was one of my all-time favourite albums when I was younger for the critical and general human cred it tends to bestow but the fact of the matter is that only half of it is any kind of good. That's what, 17 minutes in all?

heh well for my part I totally respect people hating on certain songs (there's definitely songs I don't like), silly blanket statements about how "overrated" they are or whatever are a different matter

For the record, Simon, I like the Deftones. They're just not the most reliable of bands ime.

Well they're overrated insofar as they have no single great album. Taken as a whole, however, they are certainly a canonical force to be reckoned with.

Take Revolver, for example. 'Yellow Submarine', 'Good Day Sunshine', 'Doctor Robert' and 'Got to Get You Into My Life' all suck.

'Getting Better', 'Fixing a Hole', Lovely Rita' and 'Good Morning Good Morning' make me cringe whenever I listen to Sgt. Pepper.

Good Morning, Good Morning has so many awesome details - the dropped beats, bizarre horn arrangement, animals eating each other, stinging guitar solo. Classic.

I'll tell you what I love about Beatles For Sale - the timpani on Every Little Thing. That's some good timpani there.

I've been listening to the Beatles a bunch lately for the first time in years and was thinking abt the block I often run into. The melodies are so indelible on a seven or eight year old's brain, you grow up with that + the fact that the vocals are so high in the mix, hearing the band on the other side of that is sometimes a challenge. What a fucking great rock band. I mean duh, but.

Nina nastasia is one of the great, overlooked artists of the 2000’s. She was very prolific for awhile but dropped out of sight almost a decade ago (her last album was released in June 2010). She’s still out there playing shows and supposedly had something in the works awhile ago but haven’t heard much since. Really wonderful.
