it has the right spacey balearic guitar vibe though it depends on your feeling towards TWOD maybe

omar little, Monday, 10 February 2020 17:50 (four years ago) link

Sounds nice! But maybe not tropic-lounge enough

Any more keywords to use to find the right "Sorcerer" among all the metal bands?

Thanks all again by the way.

Also just want to mention Immersion II by Deepchord is one of the most beautiful & relaxing tracks I've ever heard ftr. Lots of beauty in this collection of albums but that track just nails it (on the ambient side).

Some comp recommendations that don't entirely fit the nature brief but am going to mention anyway:

- The three La Torre Ibiza compilations are all brilliant.
- 'Chill Pill' from last year: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Chill-Pill/master/1601376
- Isle of Jura have a new comp coming out shortly: 'Transmission Two' that looks promising (tracklist below). First one also worth checking.

1. Carl Craig – C Beams Glitter (Versus Version)
2. Bochum Welt – Greenwich (Mix 2)
3. John Rocca – The River Must Flow (Zulu Dub)
4. Daniele Patucchi – People Come In
5. Hit Man – Future Times
6. Sapho – Le Train De Paris (Jura Soundsystem Edit)
7. David Arch – Afro Culture
8. Zann – After Work
9. Hirini Melbourne – Waiata Ki Te Ra
10. Jeff Bridges – Feeling Good

millmeister, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 10:37 (four years ago) link

Second those La Torre comps.

Also Chris Coco's Balearic compilations

Good call- also totally slept on Cantoma. That is being corrected.

Claremont Editions out this week

https://soundcloud.com/claremont-56/sets/claremont-editions

When Claremont 56’s first compilation series, “Originals”, came to an end in 2013, Paul “Mudd” Murphy decided not to replace it, choosing instead to pour his energy into promoting albums and singles from the label’s growing family of artists. Six successful years later, Murphy has had a change of heart and decided to inaugurate a brand new compilation series, “Claremont Editions”.

This time round, the focus won’t be rare and obscure cuts selected by DJs, but rather new, unheard and overlooked recent material from label stalwarts, new artists and friends Murphy has made along the way. The first volume of “Claremont Editions” is naturally rather special, offering a vibrant and colourful trip through Claremont 56’s distinctively warm, sun-kissed and emotion rich sound. As befits a compilation that will be desired by DJs and sofa-bound listeners alike, Murphy has selected a mixture of dancefloor-friendly workouts and hazy, horizontal fare.

groovypanda, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 15:46 (four years ago) link

Claremont 56, yes. Blue River was a key listen on my trip to Oahu/Kauai in 2014.

doug watson, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 15:57 (four years ago) link

I dumped most of these into a big playlist. Please feel free to suggest anything else to add or remove.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 16:37 (four years ago) link

Oh wow thanks so much for doing that! My wife was also requesting it so that's perfect

Evan, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 16:56 (four years ago) link

Right off the bat per recent posts we should at least add:

Cantoma - Just Landed
Smith & Mudd - Blue River

Evan, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 17:00 (four years ago) link

they have been added!

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 17:02 (four years ago) link

So what couldn't you find?

Looks like these Global Patterns / Fireflower Foundation releases may not be on Spotify:

- From Tokyo to Honolulu: 自然の音楽 / 生まれ変わり
- ll nøthing ll: Artificial Nature
- 六月花 (June Flower): 緑の丘 (Green Hills), 赤い夏 (Red Summer)
- 地球 (Earth): ジャングル (Jungle)

But besides them any others?

Evan, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 17:23 (four years ago) link

Not sure offhand, might have to go back and look.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 11 February 2020 18:00 (four years ago) link

Well, not surprisingly, none of the Aficionado releases are available on streaming, as they seem/seemed to be physical media only. No Bandcamp downloads either. A damn shame for those of us who've moved away from physical formats.

doug watson, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 18:05 (four years ago) link

(since any or all of their EPs would fit the bill perfectly)

doug watson, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 18:06 (four years ago) link

yeah re aficionado gotta try to get this eleventeen eston cut on there:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhfuaJIKoG8

brimstead, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 19:47 (four years ago) link

That cut is actually included on Music For Dreams' Sunset Sessions 3, which does appear on Spotify

doug watson, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 20:42 (four years ago) link

shy layers... my man. might get away w/the first twin sister record too

||||||||, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 21:39 (four years ago) link

looking forward to someone pulling these all together into one big spotify list

||||||||, Tuesday, 11 February 2020 21:40 (four years ago) link

oh I see someone already did. nice

I also think the new Steve Cobby album would work well.

Steve Cobby - Sweet Jesus

bit of a cheat, but Mark Barrott compiled this sunset playlist that I find myself playing when i'm in this zone:

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7M1Puo8vKPJoiSHYgTXcNa?si=ydeRUTlAQRSLB4eyOSBN5w

and a playlist I made for this same purpose a couple years back called, appropriately enough, Summer Nights. It features a lot of the same songs (Lissvik/Air France) that are already in the playlist, but it's a tidy little listen.

Added some more albums, will need to look at those playlists when I'm sitting at a computer

speaking of chris coco, found this 2cd set today for 50p.

perfect timing now that the days are getting longer.

By the way, my original list had a pretty heavy lean into the experimental ambient/new age side. The recommendations totally delivered in regards to the thread theme, but wondering if any of you had thoughts on that category as well.

From what I had already, these are really nice if you have any interest (the rest of the applicable inclusions I haven't spent enough time with; still diving in):

- Aokigahara Online: Mori
- Deepchord: Immersions, Lanterns
- Heavenly Music Corporation: In a Garden of Eden, Lunar Phase
- Iguana Moonlight: Wild Palms
- Les Halles: Zephyr
- M. Geddes Gengras: Hawaiki Tapes
- Magnétophonique: Une Cartographie Idéale
- UNKNOWN ME: Subtropics
- Wave Temples: Isle Enchanted
- 六月花 (June Flower): 緑の丘 (Green Hills), 赤い夏 (Red Summer)
- 地球 (Earth): ジャングル (Jungle)

Evan, Wednesday, 12 February 2020 15:57 (four years ago) link

That 80s Japanese ambient/new age comp that placed in the year end rollout has some lovely stuff on it

groovypanda, Wednesday, 12 February 2020 17:56 (four years ago) link

Been meaning to dive into that one! On it.

Open to more in that ambient-experimental/"naturewave" and/or ambient (+ semi field recording) + tasteful new age if anyone has any more thoughts?

Best in class imo on that front:
- Magnétophonique: Une Cartographie Idéale
- Iguana Moonlight: Wild Palms
- G.E.N.E.: Rain Forest
- Wave Temples: Isle Enchanted

And can't sing enough praise for Deepchord's Immersions II, specifically

Also glaring overall omissions on my part... need to add:
- Air France: GBG Belongs To Us, Afraid You Told Someone About Us, Hold On To Me Baby

I feel like my mega playlist is going to be a go to while self isolating. Any time anxiety starts to creep in, I reach for those soothing vibes.

“Canyon” off that first Club Meduse comp is incredible, stoked for the sequel
