Thanks to the poll runners for the excellent roll out and images!

Got a bit more hivemindy toward the top, but over half of the ilm top 50 appeared outside the composite Top 50 on Rob Mitchum's sheet.

Kinda bummed I haven’t connected with Titanic Rising the same way many people have seemed to — still love Front Row Seat, though

winters (josh), Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:10 (four years ago) link

Never heard Weyes Blood. It...it...sounds like LDR??

ILM Albums Poll 2019: Thread of Stats and Ballots

seandalai, Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:10 (four years ago) link

Me and imago saw her at The Camden Lock Tavern in 2015 and there were like six people in the audience and she played her backing tracks off a laptop. She used my phone to call her manager maybe I can find that number and call to let them know the good news?

tangenttangent, Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:12 (four years ago) link

xps: they're not a major publication or anything so it doesn't surprise me that they're not in that spreadsheet, but Gorilla vs Bear was how I found out about the Men I Trust album - it was high on their list, as was Essentials.

monotony, Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:14 (four years ago) link

Really didn't mind who won between Weyes Blood and Lana. They were both in my top three.

Great list, easily the best on the internet. Thanks to all the pollrunners! This is the only thing I enjoy about this time of year.

kitchen person, Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:15 (four years ago) link

wild that Sault didn't appear in any other lists. was definitely some internet buzz for that

I just laid down and cried
The waters don't really go by me
Give me something I can see
Something bigger and louder than the voices in me
Something to believe

this bit slays me every time <3

monotony, Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:15 (four years ago) link

i'm seeing her in a few weeks as well, super excited!

weyes blood? pmsl

||||||||, Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:16 (four years ago) link

LDR was my #6, probably could or maybe should have ranked it higher but i was being slightly strategic with a couple albums.

omar little, Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:17 (four years ago) link

thanks to the poll runners as ever for your hard work!

Thank you, pollrunners! This has been a thoroughly stylish and enjoyable poll season

tangenttangent, Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:25 (four years ago) link

Well done everyone - despite my reservations, WB definitely deserved to beat Lana, so not a bad result. Thanks to the poll runners!

emil.y, Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:27 (four years ago) link

fascinated by terminal cheesecake

or maybe i'm just hungry

ooga booga-ing for the bourgeoisie (voodoo chili), Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:33 (four years ago) link

i know terminal cheesecake from of old, don't think i've listened to them once since 1990 though!

ymo sumac (NickB), Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:35 (four years ago) link

absolutely would not have picked weyes blood winning it, huh. i knew it was liked but i didn't think there was winning the poll level enthusiasm for it here. it's fine but like the angel olsen album this year i found the extravagant arrangements made it hard to feel much of a connection to.

anyway, great rollout, thanks to all the poll-runners

ufo, Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:36 (four years ago) link

Fire! Orchestra - Arrival

This was my #1 :( It's beautiful chamber-jazz, even has a Chic cover to please the crowds...

seandalai, Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:36 (four years ago) link

...or not

ymo sumac (NickB), Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:37 (four years ago) link

i knew it was liked but i didn't think there was winning the poll level enthusiasm for it here

think that's just the nature of polls like this. an album that many ppl think is pretty good will beat all the albums that less ppl think are amazing.

Great poll results, excellent roll-out, fabulous images, well done all and especially our stalwart pollrunners!

Thanks again poll-runners!

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:42 (four years ago) link

Thank you poll runners! Weyes Blood was my #2, so pleasantly surprised by the outcome - was expecting Purple Mountains or Lana Del Rey to take it.

aphoristical, Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:42 (four years ago) link

Thank you to the poll runners.

Big thanks to the polrunners, lots to check out and revisit in the top 77 this year.

Tayhana - Tierra del Fuego

I listened to this the other day and liked it!

Gavin, Leeds, Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:53 (four years ago) link

so nobody liked that Brittany Howard record huh. in singles poll or here.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 6 February 2020 23:05 (four years ago) link

Great job, pollrunners!

Can’t say I was feeling these results all that much, but tbh after the high(s) of the tracks rollout the only way was down.

Currently thoroughly digging Khidja Şi Balabaş, which I hadn’t heard of before, so it’s all good.

breastcrawl, Thursday, 6 February 2020 23:11 (four years ago) link

the images were totally incredible. moka, idk if you've ever been tapped to design cover art, but i'd hire you.

2019 Weyes Blood - Titanic Rising

seandalai, Thursday, 6 February 2020 23:24 (four years ago) link

Are we getting more rockist as time goes on? Will we start voting for Paul Weller albums and talking about 'real' instruments?

emil.y, Thursday, 6 February 2020 23:26 (four years ago) link

To Pimp a Butterfly retains the record for the most points (2204) and the most votes (62), but Kaputt received more #1 votes (12!) than any other album in the current era of EOY polling.

seandalai, Thursday, 6 February 2020 23:28 (four years ago) link

We had more voters back then though, right?

Tim F, Thursday, 6 February 2020 23:31 (four years ago) link

really happy that Tinashe made the top 10. it was my #1!
I guess I'll have to give a try to Weyes Blood?

it's a really good record

what a year for music tbh

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 7 February 2020 00:21 (four years ago) link

Aside from King, this is the first album poll winner I liked a lot. Glad it beat LDR.
