When he's hiding in the closet I just assumed her outfit was for someone else and that's why the scene was unfolding as it was - the fact it was all genuinely for him was shocking and sweet and surprising

if she was listing where she was going, why did he get so angry and distracted at dinner? he starts getting worked up and frantically texting her asking if she was fucking with him, then gets mega insistent on checking to see if she's gone on the way home. Which, yes, he did tell her to be out and send a picture confirming it, so he would have showed up to check on that regardless, and it's true dude doesn't give much of a shit about other people, but I felt like he was probably more likely to wait until he got them home so his kids wouldn't find out if he hadn't been spooked by her text.

I interpreted to be her posing a prank and listing his apartment for far less than it was worth on Craigslist so that people would keep coming by and fucking with him asking about the place. He just seemed mega convinced that she was up to no good and seems surprised when he hears loud music but finds nobody inside.

i think the first julia/howard scene is also key to their dynamic--she's sleeping late and he's annoyed but she convinces him to get in bed and *cuddle*--there's a little sense of sweetness and vulnerability in how he is around her vs. the rest of the time when he has to be always on and operating.

I've said it a couple times and I stand by it. I think it was purposefully framed this way. That's why those scenes where she shows a sweet or playful side are so surprising. Perhaps a second screening would change my mind.

It's a Q&A / prank show comedy short that will play after the film, if the trailer featuring the Safdies, Sandler, Megan Amram and Jason Bateman at Mel's Diner is any indication. (Though I've only seen announcements of a Q&A, not an extended cut, so maybe that's something different.)

funnily enough watching the start of this again yesterday i thought that the font which establishes the location was very similar if not identical to the font on the poster for the exorcist

Man this was relentless.
It really reminded me of that novel by Kazuo Ishiguro that's written so specifically like a dream, with the main dude kind of sleepwalking from one important task to another but never quite completing each one and seemingly getting tangled in all the duties, risks, seemingly forgetting the point of each one or leaving some valuable thing somewhere vulnerable, although this film takes it to fever pitch level and Sandler kind of has it in hand for enough of it you're not quite sure if he'll pull it all off or end up chucked out of a window.

"homeless rabbis" line was great.

The Uncut Gems title font is Albertus, which I think of as the Ginsberg's Howl / National Review font.
