Yeah that menu is almost delicious sounding enough to make me want to eat some meat. Wow.

I couldn't go with any of the fancy dogs at dougs yesterday. Went with the basic grilled dog with everything on it, so I could have my proper chicago do, which I forgot is a messy pain in the ass to eat, and a polish dog with kraut and relish. I did not put ketchup on either, as all the signs say, but will secretly fess to being a ketchup on dog fan. With relish.

This is totally weird to me! I kept thinking as I was reading this thread that the reason I immediately chose tacos is because I don't meat. Veggie hot dogs can be decent (when I'm at Hot Doug's, I get a veggie dog with some of the more exotic condiments), but they're always a substitute for the real thing. Whereas you can get a great taco with just beans, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado.

and, yeah, a veggie dog is just a slavish imitation of a hot dog, whereas a veggie taco is like all tacos just one more permutation, another color in the rainbow

True re veggie tacos, but I was thinking of a taco with TVP in it (or something along those lines) which I've never seen anywhere.

Also the place I get the hot dogs is more about the buns and toppings/condiments than the actual dogs so the veggie ones are honestly really good!

Shit, now I kind of want a real hot dog.

After 16 years though my stomach would probably explode and I might die if I decided to start eating meat again and began with a hot dog.

no, this is fallacious logic. for example, what if a city only had 1,000 mexicans but they were all experts at making awesome tacos, while another city had 1 million mexicans but they were all shitty taco-makers. also i'm going to go out on a limb here and say that at this point there may be some non-mexicans who are capable of making awesome tacos.

Maybe by percentage, but not by sheer numbers. There are more Mexicans in Chicago than the total (Mexican and non-Mexican) population of Santa Ana.

the main fallacy is assuming that good tacos can only be made by mexicans. this magical city of a 1000 taco geniuses is far more improbable, and a total strawman, c'mon.

like i said, ~if~ your main assumption is that mexicans = tacos, then yes, you actually will increase your chances of getting a good taco by being someplace with more mexicans. like, you know, mexico

for veggie tacos, a good bet is tacos with soyrizo and potatos (i've made one with purple potatoes)
