I actually have a little playlist going of 2020 Carnival tracks that I only just realized has tons of stuff I never posted here, so prepare to be spammed

Machel's "Boss Wine" has a sorta Badman Pull Up energy to it:

Bunji's "The Struggle" brings the gravitas but stick around for the horn line:

I think I posted this in the last thread? Nailah & Olatunji "Woi Ya"; pure vibes:

Rob you got Spotify? I know it's bad and hated but it's the easiest way for me to hear stuff

for complicated personal reasons it's a Google Music playlist--I'm happy to share it if that's of interest? I do have a Spotify account too and could reproduce it there, but I might wait until I've narrowed things down a bit so I'm not doing the same thing on two services

btw dog latin, I might have posted this in the old thread but I think you'd particular like this (?) Folk Tale Jouvert riddim, which is like soca carib-horrorcore:

Blaxx tune has a real spooky Jab aura despite not being from Grenada.

Showdown debuted last October with artists Alison Hinds from Barbados and Patrice Roberts from Trinidad. Andrew Bailey of Perception Management, which co-produced the series, says that rather than begin with a dancehall pairing— which Verzuz had already done with a performance by Jamaica's Beenie Man and Bounty Killer — the team elected to showcase soca music, the fast-paced child of Trinidadian calypso and the soundtrack of Caribbean carnival.

"The reason we went with soca artists was because it was a genre that hasn't been represented in Verzuz. Dancehall had been represented, so we wanted to do something for the culture," Bailey says.
