The (interim) manager sulkily did, big boss man didn't tho. We're in a shambles rn and though not the best of looks I honestly can't blame the lad for fleeing the scene.

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 27 January 2020 10:17 (four years ago) link

Malen a different player (more of a striker), he'd cost you more though yeah.

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 27 January 2020 10:18 (four years ago) link

A striker is what we need tbh, though Piatek still a possibility.

ShariVari, Monday, 27 January 2020 10:19 (four years ago) link

need two from the top, two from the middle and two small ones pls carol

Catherine, Boner of JP Sweeney & Co (darraghmac), Monday, 27 January 2020 10:23 (four years ago) link

Malen isn't available anyway, he'll likely miss the Euros because of a knee injury, he's out for the season.

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 27 January 2020 10:24 (four years ago) link

well, yeah?

backup for kane

Catherine, Boner of JP Sweeney & Co (darraghmac), Monday, 27 January 2020 10:26 (four years ago) link

Striker and holding midfielder desperately needed at the moment but it's very hard to imagine any really good CF wanting to come to Spurs given Kane's obvious pre-eminence.

Matt DC, Monday, 27 January 2020 11:21 (four years ago) link

foyth, kwp, rose, wanyama all available, lamela an option too if rumours are to be believed

romantic in me says the first two have players in them if a full season loan could beat sloppiness out of them but idk do players improve anymore or do they just work in a system or for a manager or not

Catherine, Boner of JP Sweeney & Co (darraghmac), Monday, 27 January 2020 22:57 (four years ago) link

We can confirm the departure of Christian Eriksen who has today completed a transfer to Inter Milan.

That’s great news.

ShariVari, Tuesday, 28 January 2020 13:35 (four years ago) link

That's excellent, Lo Celso has looked really good in his last few games.

Now if we could sign someone who isn't an attacking midfielder it would be very nice.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 28 January 2020 14:07 (four years ago) link

striker, dm, fullbacks in that order of priority, but hes an excellent signing and is at least an alternative in a few positions

Catherine, Boner of JP Sweeney & Co (darraghmac), Tuesday, 28 January 2020 15:29 (four years ago) link

Agreed with that, although Son can pay CF and I'm curious as to how Dele would manage there. We don't have anyone who can play DM competently and it shows in our results.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 28 January 2020 15:45 (four years ago) link

saw the gk stats today and our two lads rank very highly in terms of save % from both inside and outside the box, which backs up the viewing evidence that we are very very soft indeed to get at, and while dm and fullback positioning are a huge part of it, the complete lack of a player up the field in any way capable of holding onto the ball is definitely a factor.

son wont solve that, lucas doesnt solve that, we dont play in a way that utilises the pace of either at CF

dele is a disaster case recently. three or four moments a game spread out among really careless and lazy decisions. hes also lost a disturbing amount of pace for a 23 year old who did not start out particularly quick.

tactically we could make do with the personnel available in the other positions imo (either we arent, or they arent listening) but there is nobody to do even the non-scoring part of the job up the pitch and its killing us

Catherine, Boner of JP Sweeney & Co (darraghmac), Tuesday, 28 January 2020 16:26 (four years ago) link

We are very awkward in transitions these days as well, Lo Celso and Ndombele are both good at playing those passes (as tbf is Winks) but there doesn't seem to be any combination of midfielders that works and they need someone better than Dier behind them who can mop up and let them play.

Dembele was the full package who could do everything but how often does a midfielder like that turn up?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 28 January 2020 16:32 (four years ago) link

if there are no players that fulfil your vital role, you need to design another role

tbh im not sure that any of our options *couldnt* be the patrol-and-pass conservative midfielder we need, but we seem to keep asking them to also be the one to break through lines, track the runs from central that son, lucas and dele dont (ie all of them) and cover both full backs at once

somebody, somewhere is doing not very much not very efficiently, and yep dembele was a genius one-off but eric dier can still do three or four things well, as can winks, if we allow that nobody is going to do it all for us like moussa did once upon a time

Read Vertonghen came to Spurs in the summer of 2012. That's his eight best years as a player, and all that time he didn't win a single trophy. Nothing. Just letting that sink in.

Scampidocio (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 27 July 2020 10:29 (three years ago) link

Still a big club though.

Sonny Shamrock (Tom D.), Monday, 27 July 2020 10:36 (three years ago) link

To be fair, who has won anything in that period? Man U, Man C, Lpool, Chelsea, Arsenal... plus Leicester, Wigan and Swansea. It's hardly getting shared around.

Michael Jones, Monday, 27 July 2020 14:11 (three years ago) link

Yeah, there's what, 4 or 5 trophies up for grabs each year?

Of which only 2 really mean anything

chonky floof (groovypanda), Monday, 27 July 2020 14:26 (three years ago) link

4 or 5 national is quite a lot compared to most European countries that only have the title and the cup.

Scampidocio (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 27 July 2020 14:35 (three years ago) link

I'm only counting League, FA Cup, League Cup and any European titles.

Take a similar period when I was a kid (1973-80) and there 14 teams winning a domestic or European honour (and this was despite Liverpool appearing to win everything!). It's a bit of an elite shut-out now.

Michael Jones, Monday, 27 July 2020 15:36 (three years ago) link

Juventus have just won their 9th title in a row, Bayern are on 8 in a row, PSG have won 7 out of the last 8 titles, Real or Barca have won 15 out of the last 16 titles.

Sonny Shamrock (Tom D.), Monday, 27 July 2020 17:41 (three years ago) link

Carabao cup tho

Scampidocio (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 27 July 2020 18:46 (three years ago) link

I'd prefer one of the Bournemouth lads despite their problems this season, they're younger and could perform better with improved service. Plus I don't think Deeney is physically well suited to spending large amounts of time on the bench. But nearly anyone will do right now.

Would prefer an up and coming European prospect but I guess their price tag would be prohibitive for us at this stage. And very few higher tier strikers would agree to playing second fiddle to Kane for most of the season.

Matt DC, Sunday, 2 August 2020 10:29 (three years ago) link

I don't think Deeney is physically well suited to spending large amounts of time on the bench.

Let's not beat about the bush, he's a fat bastard. I think Mou has realized his trolling isn't having much effect on opposition managers anymore so he mostly concentrates on trolling Spurs fans these days.

Manchester City are preparing a £40m bid for England and Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks, 24

O_o

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Saturday, 15 August 2020 07:48 (three years ago) link

Winks is one of the players I was thinking would benefit from playing alongside Hojberg, allowing him to play the game he should be playing rather than continuing to entertain the notion that he's a defensive midfielder. But Mourinho just isn't the manager to develop that game.

We've probably planted this story in order to generate some interest so hey.
