HOF is basically the Grammys of NFL with less sexual discrimination and harassment AFAICT so let the guy wear his goofy jacket. He’s the everyjock QB. He’s been so mediocre he’s been the captain of the offense for a mostly good-to-OK team that beat the GREATEST DYNASTY EVER not once but TWICE during his career as the starter. He was drunken kung fu at his peak. He loves to go antiquing with his family. He is a miraculous doofus. Give the man a tan jacket immediately.

I mean he's definitely going to get in for the SBs alone. Because of pundits' bogus obsession with SB wins being purely the product of good quarterbacking, 2 SBs is a slam dunk.

Had he not won, he might have still got in based on his career stats. But these are only a byproduct of longevity and durability - Jack Morris syndrome. He only finished in the top ten in passer rating once, was never a serious MVP candidate in a single season, and never lead the league in a single season in any major passing category except interceptions. He didn't have a great game in the first one, though he did come through in the clutch, but the defense deserves equal credit. Second Super Bowl he was pretty great.

Finished with an 84.2 passer rating, which isn't bad, but this wasn't the "chuck it deep" gun-slinging 80s, it's the passer friendly checkdown era. Even Tannehill has a career passer rating higher than his.

He will get in but I wish someone would designate him the laziest QB to ever be elected to the Hall. Dude routinely made rookie mistakes deep into his 30s, and never was a consistent stud

Idk, Namath was the first QB to throw for 4,000 yards. And of course, back then, when you were allowed to maul receivers downfield with no P.I. flags, QBs routinely threw more picks than TDs.

Unitas's numbers would have been considered lousy by today's standards, though not sure about his QBR.

Yup. Nobody knows who was the GOAT NFL QB. It's impossible to say, but Peyton Manning was unquestionably excellent, as was Fran. The "run-of-the-mill Hall of Fame QB" was voted as among the best, most amazing QBs of his era. They all have a reason to be there.

Joe Kapp I remember from the old style NFL films. Dude often threw some fugly passes for even then, of course by that era Tebow would have been efficient.

I'm happy Harold Carmichael finally got the nod for the hall. When he retired he was like #5 or something like that in all time receptions when he retired. He also got a pass a game for like 10 years back when they could literally mug you running out for a pass.

The old QB that I think might be on the bubble is Kenny Anderson, really the first 'west coast offense' qb as Walsh was the OC there before he went to the Niners. Anderson was very efficient, but he played for the Bengals in the 70s in same division as the Steel Curtain.

Carmichael was in some ways the first really tall wide out, plus there are pictures where he is playing with baseball gloves with the fingertips cut out.

As for Eli, there is absolutely ZERO chance he does not make the Hall of FAME...can't have that speech where Peyton puts in his brother.

Fitzpatrick is like this generations Vinnie Testeverde. Vinnie had a couple years where he was on good clubs, where Fitz has been more on the middlin' side of the NFL.

The thing that changes everything is that they have made greatness about "THE RING". Pretty much any decent QB that wins a couple of Superbowls is already on the margins of being in the Hall of Fame and statistically in the pass happy era, there is just a bunch of guys that are decent at the position. THE ELITE is really average.

I like the idea of there being a wing for career backups who wound up doing crazy things, like Matt Flynn throwing 6 TDs in a game, Foles playing lights out for a month and winning a Super Bowl, or Fitz magically turning into Tom Brady every time his club is four games under .500. the fact that the HoF is just a neverending discussion about greatness and who is truly ELITE is boring
