I have flipped past Rufus' Seal in Red in the bins countless times, yet never looked at the back cover. That one's amazing. (xpost to 2 months ago)

Man that Cropper/Staples/King album is pretty cool. Never heard of it before.

the public eating of beans (Sparkle Motion), Thursday, 23 January 2020 19:24 (four years ago) link

Ouch.

Frozen Mug (Tom D.), Friday, 24 January 2020 07:32 (four years ago) link

Such a great record though.

There should be a thread for "I have a friend that draws" album covers

the public eating of beans (Sparkle Motion), Friday, 24 January 2020 14:04 (four years ago) link

I'd like to make one called "The Heat Is On" and it's just a finger pointing to a thermostat that clearly has an switch in the "on" position

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Friday, 24 January 2020 14:41 (four years ago) link

Or maybe even better, not a real thermostat, just a very crude, old-looking switch labeled "HEAT" with "ON" and "OFF labels for the positions.

Okay, that one is kind of freaking me out with its yawnsome literalness.

TS: Kirk/Spock vs. Marat/Sade (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 26 January 2020 19:45 (four years ago) link

NOT impressed with that guy's leaning technique

nothing in the dialog (unregistered), Sunday, 26 January 2020 22:06 (four years ago) link

at least they didn't call it "Hands in my Pants"

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Monday, 27 January 2020 18:48 (four years ago) link

I can't help but assume they had one photo of the guy and then just decided what to call the album based on the photo

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Monday, 27 January 2020 18:49 (four years ago) link

i kinda love the images

a lot of the "on the rocks" albums—and there are a lot—are pretty bad but not nec yawnsomely literal.

andrew m., Wednesday, 29 January 2020 15:35 (four years ago) link

i would like them to be standing on surfboards on top of those rocks please

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 29 January 2020 15:37 (four years ago) link

the cover for wailing souls' on the rocks has me confused, however.

Bit late here, but: a flute is not a horn, Jim.

emil.y, Wednesday, 29 January 2020 15:39 (four years ago) link

andrew m., Wednesday, 29 January 2020 15:39 (four years ago) link

wailing souls cover reminds me when my wife and i were looking to get some hay bales for a halloween party. her country-fried coworker says "you don't want hay you want straw-hay. hay-hay's got chopped up snakes and shit in there." i think of this at least a few times a year.

andrew m., Wednesday, 29 January 2020 15:48 (four years ago) link

the lesson: ask for straw hay, people.

andrew m., Wednesday, 29 January 2020 15:48 (four years ago) link

I'm very anxious about getting The Surfers double bass back to shore without salt water damage.

That one has always felt super corny to me because of the triple pun.

At the last minute, the art director got worried this wasn't obvious enough, so added some Bound Hands for contrast.

The High Level Ranters, "Four in a Bar" (which I'm assuming is a musical pun, which makes it even better)
