I still don't know the difference between this and a new Paramore album but whatever I'm excited who cares

Boy, is that great. Great video, too. (Song pairs well with the new Pearl Jam ...)

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 24 January 2020 17:37 (four years ago) link

I hope my daughter likes this.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 24 January 2020 17:38 (four years ago) link

I happily listened to it like 10 times in a row yesterday. m bison, what are your lame comparisons? I hear a little Kate Bush and Alanis Morissette in the vocals in various parts.

My bestie said St Vincent

good call.

☮️ (peace, man), Friday, 24 January 2020 20:45 (four years ago) link

Yup, this is great. I hear those Kate Bush echoes too (which seem to be everywhere the last few years), but the pulsing beat is a new and welcome thing.

i like this better than any st vincent i've ever heard

kate bush! and latter-era radiohead.

majority whip, majority nae nae (m bison), Friday, 24 January 2020 22:16 (four years ago) link

oh and the breathy part reminds me of tour de france by kraftwerk

majority whip, majority nae nae (m bison), Friday, 24 January 2020 22:16 (four years ago) link

I love this

Roz, Saturday, 25 January 2020 13:25 (four years ago) link

xp: I had been thinking Meredith Monk, but Tour de France is probably closer.

Also the one-note humming sample reminds me of the "ha ha ha ha" from O Superman. See also the harmonized vocals on "con-trol" and "eyes closed" in the chorus, although Hayley isn't nearly as vocodored.

i wasn't as big on "simmer" as the rest of you but this one is really nice

ufo, Thursday, 30 January 2020 20:17 (four years ago) link

Both fantastic. This one is reminiscent of Radiohead, but also, like, a creepy understated Tori Amos b-side (“Honey”, maybe?).

Tim F, Thursday, 30 January 2020 20:47 (four years ago) link

Not a cover of the Living Colour song to my immense disappointment.

ok now it's filtered to spotify

"creepin'" is so awesome

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 6 February 2020 17:09 (four years ago) link

and "sudden desire" is the best one yet

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 6 February 2020 17:24 (four years ago) link

cinnamon is kinda roisiny

Thybulle on the Dash (Spottie), Thursday, 6 February 2020 22:46 (four years ago) link

"cinnnamon" is also kinda tune-yardsy

"creepin" rules though

ufo, Thursday, 6 February 2020 23:13 (four years ago) link

This is the most ILM record ever (even after just 5 songs).

Jeff W, Friday, 7 February 2020 13:50 (four years ago) link

The next song released will be about how much she loves balloons.

MarkoP, Friday, 7 February 2020 14:05 (four years ago) link

"Cinnamon" is not bad.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 7 February 2020 14:07 (four years ago) link

lol xp

☮️ (peace, man), Friday, 7 February 2020 14:09 (four years ago) link

Not feeling "Cinnamon." Agree w/the Tune-Yards comment. "Creepin'" is better but the total batch here hasn't been as exciting to me as I expected given how big of a Paramore fan I've been since Riot!

Indexed, Friday, 7 February 2020 19:19 (four years ago) link

Huh, I'm almost the opposite, in that I love all of this new stuff. But then, I've only really gotten into the last couple of Paramore records. Regardless, I love how these new songs *sound*. Who produced, is that all Taylor York?

so far it's predominantly an acoustic singer-songwriter album and i'm enjoying it much more than petals for armor

overall: nice enough, a few really lovely tracks, certainly better as a whole than petals for armor

ufo, Thursday, 4 February 2021 15:13 (three years ago) link

well thats saying something since I think P4A was one of the best albums of last year

akm, Thursday, 4 February 2021 15:27 (three years ago) link

The next Paramore album should be called "Paramore Is Still a Band."

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 4 February 2021 15:28 (three years ago) link

"paramore is a band" (as opposed to hayley&co) was a constant refrain when they were still active as well. part of their dramatic landscape, slight overprotestation and all. wouldn't be a bad title no.

putting this on omgggggg

wait maybe i'm not

difficult listening hour, Thursday, 4 February 2021 16:02 (three years ago) link

apparently there were breakup rumours yet again so i think hayley is getting a little tired of those lol

The next Paramore album should be called "Paramore Is Still a Band."

Or "Paramore's Got Their Own Album To Do"

these songs are beautiful!!!!

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 5 February 2021 13:50 (three years ago) link

I can already tell this is the kinda record I'm not gonna want to put on front to back very often but the right track at the right time is gonna hurt me

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Friday, 5 February 2021 14:05 (three years ago) link

yeah, same

"over those hills" almost sounds like late-period cardigans to me

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 5 February 2021 14:27 (three years ago) link

"kyrh" is devastating

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 5 February 2021 14:37 (three years ago) link

Realize this probably sounds intentionally contrarian but I'm enjoying Flowers for Vases way more than I ever took to Petals (which outside of "Simmer" never landed for me). Yes, some of these tracks can feel like sketches but there's some downright lovely music and emotions here that are laid bare in a truly intimate recording.

Indexed, Thursday, 18 February 2021 15:23 (three years ago) link

three months pass...

I'm kind of obsessed with "Over These Hills." What a perfect, simple (but not too simple -- that modulation is key!) little song.

Mark E. Smith died this year. Or, maybe last year. (bernard snowy), Tuesday, 18 May 2021 13:04 (two years ago) link

one year passes...

I never got around to listening to this. When it came out, I had grown pretty tired of Petals for Armor and wasn't really interested in an acoustic singer-songwriter version of same. But today, I decided I needed an autumnal album and this one was easy to reach for. Just listened to it twice. It was just what I needed and a lot better than I expected.
