I always scoop in a little bit more when I have guests because most of my friends like really strong coffee

Planet is dying so I take pleasure in the things I can such as makin coffee like I’m a damn scientist

not saying u have to measure i actually do not even possess a scale rn but i have measured in the past and tuning yr recipe can make u a nice cup of coffee if u like such things, and its not much effort

and then if u get some diff beans and feel like the brew is too weak or whatever u have a baseline to adjust from

Ha, I wrote the exact same thing as silby. So many things in life I can't control - the least I can do is take a few extra seconds to make a perfect cup each morning.

the coffee thing im actually a psycho for is a burr grinder, if i didnt have one id def 1000x rather grind at the store than use a blade grinder

id rather have no coffee device and just make cowboy coffee (which is awesome tbf) and have a burr grinder than not have the grinder

I successfully cleaned out my dumb blade grinder and now I have a nice spice mill

is it easy to clean? one thing I love about my Hario Mini is how I can take the whole thing apart and clean every component.

it doesnt really need to be cleaned i mean ill wipe it down but i just let the grinder do its thing not sure how hard it is to take apart

I think I have a cuisinart burr grinder. maybe i should try to clean it.

I clean my grinder every few months with gentle dish soap and I’m always excited for those first couple of cups. It makes a difference.

Of course you measure the grounds - otherwise you are the furtherst Barbarians the huns have yet blessed

my personal measurement is 1 and a half tablespoons per cup of water

For pourover I do 15 or 16 mL per gram of coffee.

i do 4mins too, my phone now recommends the timer to me in the morning

my chemex for two

36 g beans med-fine ground fresh
50 mL water to bloom for 30 seconds
550 mL water poured over grounds slowly for about two minutes, trying to gently agitate the grounds all the while
a minute of waiting for coffee to fill chemex

My daily is Counter Culture’s Hologram blend, which is plus/minus a Mocha Java style, for not too much money.

my roommate that i was silently judging for wasting already heated water, she and her bf, who was always over, were a chemex couple. she gave him a key to our place without telling me so he would let himself in, not say anything and just disappear into her bedroom like the dude living in the closet in Real Genius. I kind of hated him.

36g coffee is also what I use to make enough for two regular size mugs. I don't weigh the water, but I do pour over into a carafe with a line on the side that I aim for.

I have a Moccamaster drip coffee maker, I use pre-ground Peet's French Roast and don't really carefully measure the grounds or the water, but I think I have a sense about what is the right amount. I prepare the coffee maker at night before I go to bed and start it when I get up in the morning. it's easy and I like the coffee

I decided long ago that my coffee grinder is reserved for spices

Everyone says my cafetière coffee is like drinking mud and they’re right. Palpitations and/or heartburn and gtfo. I drink one cup a day.

NO coffee since my ablation for atrial fibbing in august -- EXCEPT for a 10-day burst at the start of the year to get two big long complex drafts of pieces (one on terry riley, one on the fall) finished and in to their deadlines (the riley requires much more work inc being much shorter lol)

during the full drought i was back in hospital for a week post-ablation with atrial flutter in september, this is now controlled by meds and not life-threatening but also an indication the ablation didn't really work (it's pooooossible the symptoms were exacerbated by the wine i drank at a birthday picnic but i choose not to confront this issue, also it's not like a drink that much or that cutting down on red wine at picnics is anything like as tough as cutting out coffee) (also red wine is good for the heart, observe the french, voila)

during the 10-day burst i was pleased to note i was not getting palps or other amplified symptoms -- to start i felt p good in fact, focused and un-achey etc. toward the end i was getting the usual morning sliuggishness and coming off caffeine i got the usual headaches, which have only just now dissipated tbrr.

my conclusion is that coffee actually has little unacceptable impact on my heart symptoms -- my main consultant agrees but he is VERY relaxed and laissez faire and dare i say it dodgy abt self-medication via non-pharmaceutical means viz alcohol and weed lol (i have not gone down these routes in any sustained sense). basically my beta blockers leave me a bit tired, and coffeee counters this at point of consumption but then leaves me even more tired later plus less likely to sleep soundly. off it i sleep well.

in general feel like if coffee is fucking w yr sleep u gotta get off it or drink less sleep is so important

i know for a lot of ppl it irritates their anxiety which is also bad

I haven't gotten myself a bag of fancy-pants single-origin coffee in a really long time, been just drinking Starbucks Via at home and Keurig at work. Literally nowhere in my neighborhood sells good whole bean coffee. Thinking I should order one next time we do fresh direct.

i gave up getting nice coffee for the house because I'm never up in enough time during the week and I'm enough of a douche to care about the coffee not tasting as good in the weeks following it being roasted

so i just have tim horton's as i arrive at my office

I def favor the convenience of Via on weekdays while trying to get the kids to school, and the freeness of keurig at work, but I'd like a nicer cup on weekends at least.

I have a cold brew bucket contraption that allows me to make a batch of fancy coffee and use it intermittently for a few weeks to supplement the daily French press coffee

It makes having a fancy cup much easier!

I have found the best way to make coffee in the office is using a black plastic filter cone (cost: GBP2.00), filter papers (GBP1.00 for a pack of 40) and whatever bulk ground coffee the company buys. Better flavour than a cafetiere, miles easier to clean, and no-one else is likely to use/break/steal it.
