story: my first NYC apartment/roommate situation that I almost rented was in Greenpoint (on java?) and was going to be roommates with one of the guys who did the music for Avenue Q. It was about to go on broadway so he would be moving in several months and I would take over the lease, get a new roommate. I eventually did not take the apartment because the landlord lived downstairs with his family and you had to get permission to have anyone visit the apartment and supposedly he would sometimes lock his family in from the outside.

living in new york has always sounded exhausting to me, even more so when there's apparently no fewer than fifty discrete Brooklyn neighborhoods one might consider trying to live in.

like when I moved to Seattle I just googled "seattle hipster neighborhood" and picked based on that

i am a little biased toward greenpoint bc it's the most accessible from astoria. it's also changed a lot, yet still feels like the same neighborhood i've always known? (which is also something i can say about astoria)

i think the most inexplicable neighborhood is gowanus.

Park Slope is the most beautiful. Sorry, it just is.

However I slightly prefer Williamsburg for restaurants and Red Hook for bars (hey where is Red Hook on this ballot?!)

Ditmas Park seems somewhat underrated, though I need to visit more to truly judge

I voted Ft Greene but I feel like I was voting for what it still is in my mind (just pre Barclays center)

Does Fort Greene have a Dog Beach though? I'm thinking dogs themselves might prefer the Slope, Windsor Terrace, or perhaps Prospect Lefferts Gardens

I loved living in Ditmas Park, but that was ten years ago and it's probably gentrified quite a bit since then. Disliked living in Park Slope because it was full of yuppies pushing baby carriages.

The few years I was lucky enough to live in subsidized student housing in Brooklyn Heights ($1200/mo for a one-bedroom in a brownstone) were glorious, and I love that whole area -- Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Red Hook, Brooklyn Heights. Even DUMBO has its bright spots although it kind of sucks -- I used to really enjoy walking the promenade and then going to one of the pizza spots or Rice or that big bookstore whose name I forgot. Brooklyn Bridge Park has just gotten more and more amazing over the years since I was there, around when they first started developing it. If I was rich as fuck I'd probably buy a brooklyn heights brownstone and retire there.

Yeah. That part of Brooklyn has an incredible romantic aura that's hard to beat. In all of NYC maybe only Central Park is more intoxicating and atmospheric.
My yardstick is probably whether I would want to go somewhere just to walk around there and do nothing.

My bf often does work for richie rich ppl in Bk Hgts and it's depressing what they are willing to pay to fix dumb shit that they broke or their dogs chewed on or their drunk kids' friends' trashed during a party. Also I'm positive that parking is absolute hell and last week it took us an hour to get from Gowanus to Willow St. AN HOUR. It's 3 miles.

Anyway my ideal Brooklyn dream home used to be a bungalow in Ditmas Park but I've worked in South Bk for 5 years and I fucking hate all of it. Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights--if it's not full of immigrants, it can go die in a fire. Imo the white ethnic middle-class in Brooklyn has two generations to immigrate from wherever they came from, assimilate into American whiteness, and get the fuck out. They all want to live in the suburbs anyway. Take your offensively huge SUV death machines and move far away where you can find parking at the mall and stop producing the overwhelming majority of the NYPD who go into the force already racist enough to shoot non-white ppl practically on sight.

Whew! I feel better now. That harangue is almost Morbs-like in its irrational hatred and I feel like I've really accomplished something. :D

Rich people overpaying for stuff is a justified, if grossly inadequate, form of wealth redistribution.

sheepshead bay is convenient to various beaches, has several world-class sandwich shops, very pleasant main drag, airport-adjacent-adjacent. sheepshead bay is the new bushwick you heard it here first

but also somewhat similar to parts of central and eastern queens xp

i think i might move to manhattan. i have been looking at brooklyn apartments with my partner and despairing at the rents -- especially in the neighborhoods we know and like. and yesterday, on that zillow map, i moved my cursor over to the west village and found out that it is barely more expensive there.

my brother wants us to move to bed stuy near him. but i'm just not convinced.

i would really like to move to like, wyoming or somewhere but alas

I just think if you like New York and you like Brooklyn it seems silly to think about moving to Wyoming instead when there’s queens. I had dinner in Brooklyn tonight, it didn’t even taken very long to get home.

I felt bad about driving in ny but it was so much easier between queens and brooklyn.

i was just looking at the weather in wyoming. not good.
