does any one have a clue why the shares of mary jane shares are not stopping to plunge? the canadian etf has lost more than 60% in the last year or so.

It's a good question. I've heard things have been pretty poorly run up in Canada, but yeah, they've been down pretty much across the board. One theory is that investors have often been working outside the purview of advisors, who I suspect have been pretty hands-off, given its gray area status. So what's been pushing and pulling the market has perhaps been day traders and amateurs, parties that thrive on instability. Let's see how it goes this year.

two weeks pass...

I was just reading a local editorial countering a claim in a different paper that as early as last October the smell of pot was everywhere. This new column insisted its author hadn't encountered the smell *anywhere* since legalization, which makes me question his sense of smell, because yeah, it's everywhere. On the highway (har), in museums, driving around the suburbs, walking around the city. Granted, it doesn't take much, but it is a bit of a nuisance. I came to the conclusion some weeks ago that after legalization 90% of Chicago would smell like either pot or fast food, and, well ... that's about right. I suppose in any densely populated area it's impossible to expect every person to be considerate. I just tell my kids to get used to it.

In the meantime, the sleepy alley entrance by the local dispensary has never been busier. Buncha dudes bundled together for the elements, streaming into the streets. It's like Goose Island's Black Friday every day. I'm curious if it's just a weekend and holiday thing. For sure for now it's mostly a morning thing, since currently to try and counter supply issues recreational sales have supposedly been limited to a few hours, to guarantee medical card holders an adequate supply. Though honestly I have no idea how or if that is working out.

rec on the ballot here in Jersey but have not seen anything either for or against as far as ads. I doubt that a lot of people even know it's up for vote, doesn't help that it's on the back of the ballot.

frogbs, Thursday, 8 October 2020 18:13 (three years ago) link

1. Reasonable point, which is why people shouldn't drive high
2. So by legalizing weed, there will be... more weed?
3. This is a problem?

Lol, you can't take less than one hit and still get high. Shit really is insanely powerful now, but I'm not really complaining.

Friend swears that the legal hemp flower being sold now (less than whatever percent of THC, 15-20% CBD) is like microdosing just enough THC to feel pleasant effects if you smoke a couple of bowls.

Let me congratulate the state legislature for making Vermont the 11th state in the country to legalize marijuana and also for expunging past marijuana convictions. Now, it is time for Congress and the federal government to end the war on drugs and legalize marijuana nationwide.

I held off on renewing my med card here in AZ with the expectation it'll be fully legalized. Didn't make sense to pay $500 for 2 yr card if it won't be needed in January.

I drove an hour on rural freeway between two cities in michigan and it gave me flashbacks of college when I would be terrified of getting pulled over with weed in the, but this time there were at least six giant billboards offering MICHIGAN'S FINEST CANNABIS NEXT EXIT and it still feels so surreal to me.

Friend of mine produced this box of weed and weed-adjacent... items. Gummies, vape canisters or whatever they're called, actual weed etc. It was pretty hysterical after all the things we went through back in the day to buy earth bud. He took the day off work and went to Ann Arbor. (we live in Cleveland)

xp when I lived on the wa/id border half the plates in the parking lot of the weed stores would have idaho plates, and the kansas people I know regularly travel over the border to colorado. I have no idea if they'll keep it illegal to prove some moral point or just give up after constantly losing money to other states.

Here in MN a really fun dynamic has emerged where there are two distinct pot-legalization parties that have achieved “major party” status, and their vote-siphoning presence on the ballot is the only thing preventing Democrats from gaining the state senate and actually legalizing it. Good job dudes!
