my trip to memphis was a complete washout except for getting to see jack oblivian late saturday/early sunday. played everything you'd want, knaughty knights, tearjerkers, compulsive gamblers, oblivians, solo stuff, everything except johnny vomit & the dry heaves basically. it was great, awesome even.

ditto. i was at the bar with mike and lisa when she literally grabbed me by the collar and pulled me to the stage because she heard the first couple notes. his set was the only thing that salvaged that trip to the mid-south for me.

The head of the two most prestigious publishing elements in my whole company just stopped by my desk to ask whether I was the person whose iTunes shared-file he's been enjoying so much. Apparently our publisher is a big TVP fan! On the other hand, he thought the Magnetic Fields were a) noteworthy, and b) "literary". Still, I am very pleased!

one of my students is on a behavior contract, meaning on the 2nd offense i can send him out if he breaks any of these rules

1. not moving around the class w/o permission
2. not interrupting the teacher
3. following the regular classroom rules

i sent him out yesterday for repeated and endless fucking-around, and today i get this email

Thanks, for info I have arrested him for his pattern of behavior. There is a penal code section that specifically address this behavior in the class room. I only use this for a select few. But based on his pattern this is warranted.

XXXX

Officer XXXX XXXXX
XXXXXXX City Police Department
XXXXXXX High School

YOW!! ARRESTED FOR INTERRUPTING THE TEACHER!!!

I mean unfair man not lies. When did full time police officers become standard in schools? I think my school got one starting in like 1997.

MY LUNCH. In honor of Australia Day, I went for a beef pie at the Ozzie shop near my office and it was HEAVEN. Like a spicy sloppy joe encased on flaky butter pastry. Ian, have you had? I think it is yr perfect food.

A lot of them aren't so crusty anymore, though, you know? Like you go to Minneapolis and spot some face-tatooed bike-messenger folks, and yeah, crusty, but then there's plenty of well-groomed grad-student types, and ... I dunno, at this point it's like a spectrum between crusty, the guy who works at a university and listens to world music, and just average types.

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) -- About 10,000 Juneau residents briefly lost power after a bald eagle lugging a deer head crashed into transmission lines.

"You have to live in Alaska to have this kind of outage scenario," said Gayle Wood, an Alaska Electric Light & Power spokeswoman. "This is the story of the overly ambitious eagle who evidently found a deer head in the landfill."

BEHOLD FIRE-DEAN AND THE SECRET AGENTS

Courtesy of my good and dear friend George Burroughs, director and bon vivant, The Secret Agents,

...is a documentary currently in production which follows the hip hop dance group, "Fire-Dean and the Secret Agents", from street performances to stage. The group is comprised of five middle-aged men who dance to Fire-Dean's brand of hip hop. Based out of Washington D.C. they perform anywhere in the world at any giving time in the universe.

There are two other spots,

Here (2:09)
Here (:15)

Here (:30)

This particular project is of some importance to me as George will have my legs broke if I don't hype the shit out it (that and I have an outstanding crew offer if they get picked up for commercials). So please visit and forward to your friends, family, and lover(s)!
