Anyone heard anything about further Skullflower reissues on Crucial Blast? I picked up their excellent IIIrd Gatekeeper reissue a while back, but there's been no word since...

I dunno about reissues, but there's a new LP on Noiseville with some serious black metal moves. I like it. Pschyed out, heavy black metal.

Yeah, but i did not go. And actually I haven't heard any reports, either. It was the only draw for me this year, but it sold out before I even knew tickets were on sale.

not to rub it in, but that's a pretty solid lineup

I saw black pus a couple weeks ago... thru the judicious use of triggers it's like seeing lightning bolt w/o dealing w/ lightning bolt crowds

tbh i think cold cave sucks, emeralds are boring stoners, prurient/dom is a macho creep and conrad schnitzler is old and often very boring.

i saw one of the earliest ch1ppendale solo shows when i was in high school--billed as Lord Sun Sun.

i haven't been to no fun fest since the first year (well i went for half a day the second year, all the way down in red hook.) it's such a weird macho/fratboy atmosphere.

pvd noise scene has spoiled me, not a lot of sausage factory shows

providence scene is something v different, in my experience. blame the midwest.

Back on Skullflower, I saw them a couple of months ago at Glasgow Implodes 4 (Skullflower photos) and they were truly excellent. Even a dodgy amp down they were loud, heavy, totally psychedelic, complete with heady incense burning, like being trapped in a glorious mind-transporting wind tunnel. Highest recommendation.

Anyone have the new CD, Malediction, on Second Layer? I've heard very good things about it, so am definitely going to pick it up shortly, following the wonderful GI4 experience.

Just bought "Pure Imperial Reform" today. It's sounding pretty tasty right now.

Good news! I had Form Destroyer way back, but it got hideously warped by a careless cigarette burn five minutes after I bought it so I never did get to hear the thing.

weird, i was fantasizing yesterday abt having the wherewithal to reissue the 1st 5 LPs. the ones in b&w. in imagination land, they were gonna cost maybe $20 apiece. reality bites.

If you're not bothered about the extra live disc, the straightforward albums are getting reissued individually. UK Amazon has them for preorder at just over 10pound each.

...& US Amazon has them for 21bucks

was at a load records showcase a couple weeks ago and male/female performer ratio was about 50-50

kvetch #1: o great reissuers of skullflower, you serve a worthy and honored purpose, but why o why do you place bonus tracks at the beginning? that must be some pretty righteous shit if you think I need to hear any of it before "elephant's graveyard".

yeah, that's crazy dumb. maybe they figure people are just gonna playlist them however they want.

kvetch #2: I hope stefan jaworzyn has either a) revised his opinion of the early masterings or b) been kept far from the remastering booth. maybe he's come around, but when I interviewed him back in '89 he thought the original form destroyer mix/master was terrible, and his attempt to "fix" it on the ruins CD reissue is one of the worst defangings of a beast I ever done heard. CD mastering has come a long way since then, so perhaps all will be well.

kvetch #3: by cutting the timeframe at 1990, the singles & rarities comp is missing some great tracks from '91 and '92... basically the back half of the skullflower comp of mysterious origins, ancient bloodless eye, which has haunted the halls of this thread for lo these many years (you are welcome ned). let's review:

PS all that said I'm glad someone's keeping the flame alive for the classic skullflower era. '88 - '90 was a pretty fallow period for music imo and these guys were the darkest bright lights going at the time so I'm perhaps psychically overinvested in their legacy.

"Almost every sales site/label/distro seems to be concentrating on vinyl. I don't get it. It's stupidly expensive to produce (and buy - especially considering international postage costs); there doesn't seem to be any way to break even on runs of 300 or less unless you sell most of 'em full price yourself; pressings are regularly horrible (coloured/gimmick vinyl etc is an abomination, 'super-heavy' vinyl a joke); 99% of vinyl is mastered from digital sources anyway so don’t give me that drivel about ‘analogue sound’...Oh, I could go on and on...

So the 12" series is going to lose me quite a lot. But if I sell a relatively small number of CDs I'll break even much faster, can put out another release sooner and I don't feel like a spaz having spunked over a grand on a record no one wants...AND CDs SOUND BETTER. OK, here's another. Form Destroyer. The LP version is horrible. The cut was rubbish, the pressing was rubbish (the master tapes were fine). The new CD sounds better than any other version. No, your vinyl version is not much cooler, it’s simply unlistenable. (Xaman sounds fine on vinyl as it was mastered from the – wait, what, no – DIGITAL MASTER!)

What is this crap always polluting discogs: 'when's the vinyl coming out?' I’ll tell you when the vinyl’s coming out: 'Fuck right off time' is when the vinyl's coming out.

But no, let’s pay £20.00 for an LP, which probably doesn’t include a download (mp3s are digital smegma), so where do you get your ‘listening copy’? You pay ALMOST THE SAME PRICE AS A CD for some shitty flacs, or a quid less for the mpfucking3s. What, are we slobbering slack-jawed mongoloids? Why on bog’s green earth would anyone pay around a tenner for flacs? So they can make their own CD? Duh. Oh, flacs are just dandy if you’ve got a 250GB shitpad that plays them. And they’re so convenient to load onto your portable device, eh? Right, just kill me now."
