A year of celebrations and concerts worldwide, especially around Germany, which is working very hard to make #BTHNV relevant for the facepalm era.
Beginning on 16 December 2019, the events will run until 17 December 2020, corresponding to the date of his baptism in 1770. (The composer's birthdate is uncertain.) There'll be more to come, so just post info here if you think it's interesting, I guess.

So, it's BTHVN, but with young upstarts too! I believe they're promising rapping at one show.
The new translations will include some in English, and excitingly, in Chinese, Māori, Zulu, and Australian.*
- (*Wish the Ode would be sung in an Indigenous language, but I'm currently assuming English judging by the blurbs. The interludes at the Sydney shows will celebrate Australia's First Nations and multiculturalism.)

The a capella song by the choir at the start, sung in the aisles, is listed as anonymous but shares a title with Castro Alves' famous poem about slavery. The Afro-Brazilian experience is the subject of the first interlude, which is as jarring as presumably it's intended to be. Clarice Assad's second (new) piece is quite majestic and fits well, I think. She's a Brazilian-American composer.
The 2nd of these concerts starts in London on April 16.
