is there a way to message a user through the zing app? I couldn't find a way the other day, and it would/could be useful for FAP organizing?
― sarahell, Saturday, 28 December 2019 23:24 (four years ago) link
@ing someone could serve that function (somehow). like maybe an @ creates a new link on a special bookmark page, linking through to the post where you were @ed.

A better YouTube link parser is needed (see my multiple posts on the I Think You Should Leave thread for examples), especially for mobile.

Yeah they seem to sprinkle the "feature=YouTu.be" string in all over the URL depending on how you share it.

I can never remember what a good YouTube URL looks like. There are question marks and equals signs that I can never get straight. It's all fine on desktop since I can load the actual YouTube page and copy the URL. It's tougher on mobile.
― DJI, Thursday, 6 February 2020 02:54 (four years ago) link
Just hit the āshareā arrow, copy, and you get a nice clean link like this. Maybe youāre on Android and itās messier?https://youtu.be/QHEG7CRBUGA
― El Tomboto, Thursday, 6 February 2020 02:59 (four years ago) link
But if you do that the youtube doesn't embed, it just appears as a link.

DARK MODE plz
― otm into winter (rip van wanko), Thursday, 6 February 2020 05:35 (four years ago) link
it wouldn't be difficult to modify your favourite stylesheet to be dark and submit that as an alternative. programmatically creating something that'll work for all the current stylesheets would be a challenge.

― otm into winter (rip van wanko), Thursday, 6 February 2020 07:10 (four years ago) link
the thing with youtube is if the URL is shortened like Tombot's above, it won't embed. shortened = "youtu.be" instead of "www.youtube.com".
sometimes if you post from mobile, it does that, but you can always make the link embed by typing:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=
and then inserting the latter part of the link right after the equals sign (no space).
so
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= + QHEG7CRBUGA
equals
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHEG7CRBUGA

Thanks, Neanderthal. Would be great if ILX would just parse and embed the links that El T posted.
― DJI, Thursday, 6 February 2020 21:13 (four years ago) link
I think they coded the embed feature before Youtube started automatically shortening its own URLs

So many "I missed the nominations thread," "I missed the voting thread" and "I missed the rollout" posts make me wish for a Tag function, but I could see that being badly abused. Maybe Tagging plus an opt-out.

― Swilling Ambergris, Esq. (silby), Sunday, 16 February 2020 18:26 (four years ago) link
I have to do an * to include both, because sometimes I get mentioned by my old un, but there are a bunch of posters who would have to do multiple searches, and some of them have a variety of long-ass names, so they just get referred to by an acronym, or their first name, or a googleproofed version of a first name ...

In the interests of constantly improving our democracy (& not lagging behind the labour party) I wld like to make the case for polls with preferential votes (i.e. you can number your choices). However much work wld be involved you know it wld be a storming success.

this is already possible. the includes at the top of the file list the urls that this script applies to. replace the wildcards with something more specific (boardid and threadid)
