I keep checking in and these people are still talking. Could someone text me when it's time to vote

Lactose Shaolin Wanker (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 19 December 2019 00:48 (four years ago) link

They're starting now, 15 minute vote on article 1.

Miami weisse (WmC), Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:11 (four years ago) link

Reportedly a Republican voted yes? Or was that Amash?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:29 (four years ago) link

there was a Republican "Yea" that popped up on CSPAN briefly but it seems that's been removed. Maybe a mistake?

oncle rasélonguebite (crüt), Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:30 (four years ago) link

Amash is the Independent vote I'm assuming

oncle rasélonguebite (crüt), Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:31 (four years ago) link

Tulsi votes “present”

Suggest Banshee (Hadrian VIII), Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:32 (four years ago) link

dimwit

Suggest Banshee (Hadrian VIII), Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:32 (four years ago) link

they immediately threw the Republican in the trash compactor so now he is no longer with us, no more vote

Bublé in the changer, I wish I was dead (Neanderthal), Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:32 (four years ago) link

cannot believe how many people I knew riding for Tulsi.

Bublé in the changer, I wish I was dead (Neanderthal), Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:32 (four years ago) link

impeached on both charges. well, the part we had any control over is over.

Bublé in the changer, I wish I was dead (Neanderthal), Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:46 (four years ago) link

Congrats on executing trump

Simon H., Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:49 (four years ago) link

it's about to get really agonizing

Bublé in the changer, I wish I was dead (Neanderthal), Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:51 (four years ago) link

yup

Suggest Banshee (Hadrian VIII), Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:51 (four years ago) link

meanwhile Cillizza is writing about how this is helping Trump, based on his cherrypicking of one poll that does not match others that came out just yesterday.

Bublé in the changer, I wish I was dead (Neanderthal), Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:53 (four years ago) link

that's why he makes the big money

"Third of the Storms" Jazz (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:54 (four years ago) link

As Chris Matthews just said (lol I know), given Trump is so obsessed with appearance, this means he will now do literally anything to get reelected.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:54 (four years ago) link

Unlike before

Simon H., Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:55 (four years ago) link

I'm ecstatic right now.

I know it "means" shit.

Fuck you if you're not happy.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:57 (four years ago) link

he will have a painting commissioned of his asshole and have it sent to everybody in Congress

Bublé in the changer, I wish I was dead (Neanderthal), Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:58 (four years ago) link

i'm happy.

Bublé in the changer, I wish I was dead (Neanderthal), Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:58 (four years ago) link

it's a day we never thought would come and it's here.

Bublé in the changer, I wish I was dead (Neanderthal), Thursday, 19 December 2019 01:58 (four years ago) link

Trump has media lackeys he doesn't have to pay to carry his water for him, plus he has a massive war chest to buy media ads, making his 'case' which almost completely lacks a factual basis, but consists mostly on discrediting or denying every scrap of evidence, every word of testimony, and every Democrat in Congress as biased or malignantly motivated. Plus many total mischaracterizations of the evidence, endlessly repeated.

So, it is better to tune out the majority of it as nothing new. The only important part will be how the Senate rules get written and McConnell apparently can't ram through the exact rules he most wants enacted, so the real action will take place between him and Schumer. Uh, mmm, hurrah??

A is for (Aimless), Thursday, 19 December 2019 02:00 (four years ago) link

I'm happy because he's got to be so pissed. And now what will the GOP whine about, now that it's done and can't be undone?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 19 December 2019 02:00 (four years ago) link

oh fuck off Tulsi

“I am standing in the center and have decided to vote 'Present.' I could not in good conscience vote against impeachment because I believe President Trump is guilty of wrongdoing," Gabbard said in the statement. “I also could not in good conscience vote for impeachment because removal of a sitting President must not be the culmination of a partisan process, fueled by tribal animosities that have so gravely divided our country.”

Bublé in the changer, I wish I was dead (Neanderthal), Thursday, 19 December 2019 02:03 (four years ago) link

Honestly asking: will anything of consequence happen because of this

Simon H., Thursday, 19 December 2019 02:05 (four years ago) link

xpost what a brave stand, voting "present" when you know the result is a foregone conclusion anyway

Bublé in the changer, I wish I was dead (Neanderthal), Thursday, 19 December 2019 02:05 (four years ago) link

It's inspired a bunch of activists in South Florida I know for another round of voter registration.

So fuck off anyone who sez this was an empty gesture.

(I'm not addressing you, Simon).

xp trump goes in the historical hall of shame

j., Thursday, 19 December 2019 02:07 (four years ago) link

This is meaningful and a good thing. More importantly it was the right thing.

Suggest Banshee (Hadrian VIII), Thursday, 19 December 2019 02:09 (four years ago) link

Posited somewhere that that impeachment may give the usual suspects (Collins, lol, Mitt, double lol) some cover to say they don't want him removed, but can't absolve him without hearing from important witnesses like Bolton. Which likely would further not be good for his defense, not that it will nudge the needles of these psychos.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 19 December 2019 02:09 (four years ago) link

i'll be ecstatic when I can afford chemotherapy

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 19 December 2019 02:10 (four years ago) link

are still fucking answering this question

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 19 December 2019 02:11 (four years ago) link

this will make Republicans own the acquittal. drive up our own "get out the vote" initiative and get the turnout where it needs to be for 2020. fundraise off of this shit.

Bublé in the changer, I wish I was dead (Neanderthal), Thursday, 19 December 2019 02:11 (four years ago) link

I like the headlines:

“Trump Impeached for Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress” (NYT)

and especially “TRUMP IMPEACHED:
Donald J. Trump is the third U.S. president to receive that sanction; he faces a trial in the Senate” (WP)

Dan S, Thursday, 19 December 2019 02:12 (four years ago) link

will anything of consequence happen because of this

not exactly, but if the democratic party could not bring itself to do this small thing, it really jettisoned any claim to representing reality.

we can at least now pretend that some people care about things rather than giving up entirely

mookieproof, Thursday, 19 December 2019 02:13 (four years ago) link

fuck can someone please unseat this piece of shit

can someone please unseat this piece of shit

Tulsi is just keeping her options open. There's more to life than being a member of Congress. There's a tremendous amount of good she could be doing in the world of lobbying, sitting on corporate boards, or becoming a media personality and motivational speaker, you know. Don't forget, she served her country in the military, so she is geared toward selfless national service.

I knew it! Pelosi just said they weren’t going to hand over the impeachment articles until there was a fair trial set out. This could go on for monnnnnnnthhhhsssssss.
