a reminder of the massacre of native americans PLUS an implicit turkish admission of the armenian genocide? it's an xmas miracle!

can anyone present a positive vision of the future?

seriously, with what's going on, the likely unanimous republican opposition to impeachment, in the face of blatant, self-evident evidence of wrongdoing that is in all likelihood ongoing, supported by masses of complete fucking idiots who vote them in?

just giuliani saying that he wanted former ambassador Marie Yovanovitch out of the way because she was an impediment to his important investigations about how it was actually ukraine that rigged the 2016 election. it's such a huge coincidence that this is exactly what russia wants the world to believe, and also what trump wants the world to believe. but any connection to russia is laughable because the mueller report exonerated everyone (no one can read or comprehend spoken words in 2019). in addition, no one has even bothered subpoenaing the obvious criminal dipshit in the middle of all this (uh, sorry, giuliani - realize there's multiple contenders), not that it would matter because mcconnell wouldn't allow it anyway. and what is the point, really, when everyone has known for several months that any impeachment proceeding would end up being completely opposed by virtually every voting republican in the united states? here's some goddamn hope: maybe whoever is saying up is down can be tricked into thinking "down" is up again, especially if some rich dumbass on television tells them to do it

It's cool, man, I feel like if you aren't occasionally suckerpunched into the dirt by a rogue wave of panic and/or despair these days then you just aren't paying attention.

Well, to be fair, Karl, some people are saying it totally incriminates Trump while Trump says it totally exonerates him. How can us mere individuals determine whom to believe?

Similarly, Trump says he was offered the Time "Person of the Year" cover but turned it down. Time asserts that this never happened.

Given the conflicting assertions, can you blame most people for simply shrugging and saying "whom shall I believe?"

The 2020 general election, by every indication, will be about persuasion, with turnout expected to be at record highs. Our efforts are aimed at persuading enough disaffected conservatives, Republicans and Republican-leaning independents in swing states and districts to help ensure a victory in the Electoral College, and congressional majorities that don’t enable or abet Mr. Trump’s violations of the Constitution, even if that means Democratic control of the Senate and an expanded Democratic majority in the House.

which republicans could be against the lincoln project, except for 10% or so of republicans who think he is the worst president, for some mysterious reason? i suppose there's also the koch brothers, whose network now spends as much dark money on elections as all of the legit, visible campaign donations, combined. there's also pretty much every single republican member of the house of representatives and the senate, who would not be expected to support a campaign that is defined by its opposition with their primary activity: protecting the president from accountability.

but i suppose a few stray "republicans of conscious" in swing states could be motivated to temporarily join a movement that will be ruthlessly opposed by the very same people they spent the last 40 years voting for

Republicans of conscience are like boy scouts who disdain camping and tying knots. Adoption of that particular identity is at odds with your stated goals/ideology.

Children Devouring Their Cronuts (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 17 December 2019 19:31 (four years ago) link

If somebody dreamt up what T did I think people might just dismiss it as far fetched. It's like an extended Mr magoo cartoon or something. JUst a total bungle that ought to just make him look like an idiot except it has obvious repercussions in terms of real world protocols.
What he was looking for initially outside of the visible act of showing that Ukraine were supposed to be going along with things willingly is a total fiction based on a misunderstanding of current information technology.

Lactose Shaolin Wanker (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 17 December 2019 19:55 (four years ago) link

Charming. I wonder who actually wrote the bulk of the letter before he dipped his dick in fingerpaint and slapped it at random across the pages.

That letter does capture the authentic voice of our president. It is the voice that lives inside his head all day every day. That is such a scary thought that I spend as little time thinking it as I humanly can.

I can't imagine he has read an entire book from start to finish in decades, including those he published under his own name.

A is for (Aimless), Tuesday, 17 December 2019 20:09 (four years ago) link

whoever wrote that has a sick, disturbing, and nauseating fetish for triple adjectives

rob, Tuesday, 17 December 2019 20:10 (four years ago) link

Hey, you know what's maybe the grossest and most offensive thing about that letter? The goddamn POTUS put more effort into drafting a pissy litany of grievances than he has into three cumulative years of governing the fucking country.

Children Devouring Their Cronuts (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 17 December 2019 20:10 (four years ago) link

it may not be comforting to imagine effortfulness on his part

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 17 December 2019 20:11 (four years ago) link

At the very least it underscores just how much the idea of getting impeached gets under his skin. He could just stay silent (hah) wait until the senate shit is done, then write an in-your-face screed (which he will anyway), but going full-bore like that means he's bristling at getting (another) asterisk attached to his name.

Does Steele's friendship with Ivanka undermine his credibility? Does t feel this way about any of his daughter's other friends. Is it just jealousy?

I can't imagine he has read an entire book from start to finish in decades, including those he published under his own name.

Based on his interviews, correspondence and biographical profiles over the last four decades, All Quiet On The Western Front is either the last book he read, or the only book he has ever read.

Yeah yeah, I know, it's definitely a good thing that he's a pathologically lazy and incurious and ineffectual fleshpile. It's just, y'know, a goddamn travesty that someone who fits that description has the entire goddamn country wrapped around his tiny little finger.

Children Devouring Their Cronuts (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 17 December 2019 20:22 (four years ago) link

I’d love to see a letter back from Pelosi that reads in its entirety:

“Mr. President, it is not the ‘Democrat’ Party. The word is Democratic.

Good day, sir.”

Suggest Banshee (Hadrian VIII), Tuesday, 17 December 2019 20:23 (four years ago) link

Memo to Nancy Pelosi. Drop the "Good day, sir." It's petulant. Use "I continue to pray for you every day" instead. He hates that.
