all superstars go through a process of honing their games, making them bulletproof if they want to beat the best most prepared teams

When the raptors were up 2-0 on the raptors and Giannis was averaging like 27-15-5 was that because the raptors hadn’t activated playoff mode

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 17:53 (four years ago) link

but i mean maybe playing the suns on wednesday night in january is the same as the ecf sure

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 17:53 (four years ago) link

*bucks up 2-0

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 17:54 (four years ago) link

iirc thats when they switched kawhi onto him

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 17:54 (four years ago) link

Hmmm seems like this is all really matchup dependent and not a playoffs thing then

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 17:56 (four years ago) link

playoff adjustments baby!

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 17:57 (four years ago) link

Giannis had a bad game 3 and that’s all that matters

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 17:58 (four years ago) link

idk i dont think its difficult to see the flaws in giannis game

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:00 (four years ago) link

matchups are more important in the offs cause teams have more time/incentive to prepare, its more strategic than the regular season where u m/l just have to play yr game and move on to the next

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:00 (four years ago) link

Took the league until game 3 of the eastern conference finals to solve his game, they then forgot

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:01 (four years ago) link

HOT TAKE: playing the SAME good team for 4-7 games in a row is much different than anything else an NBA player deals with

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:01 (four years ago) link

yep

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:02 (four years ago) link

the playoffs are cool just my opinion, and the contrast w the regular season is one of the best things abt the nba

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:03 (four years ago) link

having said all that if giannis doesnt actually have a very good team around him is prob a bigger factor, and siakam suddenly becoming a star and so forth

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:05 (four years ago) link

What I remember about the raptors-bucks series:

-eric bledsoe being the worst player in the nba for a few games
-that one time Kawhi dunked on Giannis and then Giannis swatted him or whatever

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:06 (four years ago) link

still if he wld stop getting suckered into low% jumpers hed be better off, but thats also based on how he plays if youre constantly handling the ball at the top of the key youre gonna have to take some js

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:07 (four years ago) link

some day there'll be a player similar to Giannis physically but a knock down shooter, yikes

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:07 (four years ago) link

all that becomes exploitable against very good defensive teams w time 2 prepare when small edges matter a lot

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:08 (four years ago) link

one thing i recall and that series is kawhi just rising up and hitting jumpers in an undefendable fashion

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:10 (four years ago) link

Kawhi was 11-32 from 3 in that series

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:13 (four years ago) link

well i was thinking of midrange shots so there

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:19 (four years ago) link

its true

bam adebayo is perhaps being underappreciated

ciderpress, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:29 (four years ago) link

hes freakin killing it for sure gonna be making all defensive teams in no time

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:31 (four years ago) link

Really wish the nuggz had picked him instead of Beasley

big part of why the NBA playoffs are better than any other sport

also giannis has a coach that hasn't exactly been a master tactician in the playoffs

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:46 (four years ago) link

i think some it is that hes a very good regular season coach so the talent is already maxed out, as opposed to teams that shuffle through the reg season then turn it up in the offs

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:50 (four years ago) link

i dont even remember who was on that 60 win hawks team besides horf and milsap... teague maybe?

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 18:53 (four years ago) link

korver and demarre carroll.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 19:01 (four years ago) link

those are some solid guys i guess

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 19:04 (four years ago) link

it was a Well Constructed team

this is true, and a point not made often enough.

omar little, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 19:27 (four years ago) link

also grudgingly admit LBJ has a vv good case for GOAT over anyone else, even MJ, who was finished after age 34* and played only 12 and 1/4ths of a season. my only caveat being of course MJ once he unlocked his game he won a title every time he got to the 'offs, except for the season where he came back from being a failed White Sock. But LBJ doing what he's doing in his 17th season is absurd. He's also p clearly more of a human being, MJ is a weird-ass dude.

his teams also do basically one thing on defense and it works great in the regular season but it's predictable and exploitable in a series against the very best competition

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 19:34 (four years ago) link

Have you guys ever wondered if MJ being such a jerk has something to do with millions of people blaming him for the murder of his father

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 19:42 (four years ago) link

I absolutely HATE the way people talk about that hawks team. The NYPD assaulted and injured their 6th man and then in the playoffs Dellavedova completely gooned two starters

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 19:44 (four years ago) link

one argument in favor of MJ is that he was constantly playing hungover & on no sleep so who knows how good he could've been

frogbs, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 19:45 (four years ago) link

people blaming him for the murder of his father

ppl love a juicy conspiracy

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 3 December 2019 20:02 (four years ago) link

like there's to this day still ppl who believe Stern forced him to retire lolol

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 3 December 2019 20:03 (four years ago) link

He seemed p normal when he entered the league but then you hear stories like him putting his finger in every donut at a commercial shoot just to spite the gaffers or whoever and you realize he was fucked in the head from the getgo

agreed, but the wheels started coming off that team in the last month or two of the regular season

Heez, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 20:09 (four years ago) link

Yes after thabo and antic got assaulted

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 20:11 (four years ago) link

I think the almost pathological need for a group of fans and media members for MJ to be the hands down greatest of all time no debate unless you have 6 rings you can't even be part of the conversation (except Bill Russell who doesn't count cuz he's old) is pretty weird and damaging to the game

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 3 December 2019 20:13 (four years ago) link

I greatly prefer it to people pretending kobe is a top 25 player

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 20:15 (four years ago) link

Lebron bringing the Cavs back from a 3-1 deficit w/ Kyrie & Love both injured is way more impressive than anything MJ ever did

frogbs, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 20:16 (four years ago) link

there are so many stories of MJ being a total alpha dog asshole which leads me to believe if he played in the age of Twitter he'd be widely disliked

frogbs, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 20:18 (four years ago) link

xp kyrie and love were not injured...

lebron does not win those finals without kyrie going supernova (and lots of other stuff)

de-mamba mentality (Spottie), Tuesday, 3 December 2019 20:19 (four years ago) link

I grew up in Chicago area and was 6-20 yrs old when MJ was w Bulls so I'm inevitably partial to him but yeah idgi why some w/o that childhood connection are like that xp to ums
