i almost admire the "dance monkey" singer's commitment to her downright bizarre vocal affectations

Update: apparently my family has indeed heard it, but they do not seem to be fans. That sort of vocal affectation is all over the place these days.

okay I just figured out the name of this song on the radio where an insane cursed puppet child shrieks about all the terrible things she's going to do to you unless you carry out her bidding.
It's 'Dance Monkey' by Tones & I

my niece (12) loves this song and she's right

It's one of these culture shock moments when you realise that something so weird can have such huge mass appeal... Her commitment to singing like a haunted Miss Piggy is commendable, but it also freaks me TF out.

the vocal is so crazy it just adds to the enjoyment/annoyance
ive never heard "before" pronounced as "befoay"...before

i was thinking more "demonic baby" than "insane cursed puppet child" myself

there have been times when i turned on the radio right in the middle of a particularly bizarre vocal 'moment' from that tune and it can be legitimately frightening

ahaha my 5 year old requests this song now, they must be playing it at 4K

i don't "like" that song but i appreciate it in the midst of everything else on the pop radio station because at least it has some character
― na (NA), Monday, 10 February 2020 15:42 (four years ago) link
true, at least it's not bland. i swear pop is getting creepier lately
― doorstep jetski (dog latin), Monday, 10 February 2020 15:43 (four years ago) link
but yeah it's a pretty annoying song
― na (NA), Monday, 10 February 2020 15:50 (four years ago) link
heard it being given the acoustic guitar treatment in piccadilly circus a few weeks ago
