$1,000,000 or 1 bag of honeycrisp apples (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 28 November 2019 01:53 (four years ago) link

man, cuphead is fun!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 28 November 2019 04:27 (four years ago) link

Love Cuphead, the design makes the defeat go down easy.

Hollow Knight isn't that hard - admittedly I got stuck on the 2nd boss for six months. But for the price, there's tons to play before it gets prohibitively difficult (I never finish games anyway)

Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 29 November 2019 12:17 (four years ago) link

I did give up on Dead Souls though

Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 29 November 2019 12:19 (four years ago) link

The Gogol book, and also the game Dark Souls

Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 29 November 2019 12:19 (four years ago) link

yeah, me too

$1,000,000 or 1 bag of honeycrisp apples (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 29 November 2019 15:11 (four years ago) link

u should go back to the gogol tho it's great

Mordy, Friday, 29 November 2019 15:28 (four years ago) link

You should go back to Dark Souls *and* Hollow Knight, which are both difficult in much the same way, but which both become really, really satisfying the better you get at them. At least until "Hollow Knight" goes all platform hell on you (which comes after you finish the main part of the game).

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 29 November 2019 16:12 (four years ago) link

Only Switch game on sale I picked up was "Darkwood," which looked cool (despite mixed reviews?) and only set me back $10.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 30 November 2019 14:42 (four years ago) link

Civ 5 is cheap. Anyone tried it?

Chuck_Tatum, Saturday, 30 November 2019 18:06 (four years ago) link

not on the switch but ~61 hours on steam where i remember it being a good (but not groundbreaking) entry in the series

Mordy, Saturday, 30 November 2019 23:26 (four years ago) link

I kinda want to pick up Dragon's Dogma for $20, but I'm ambivalent. Everyone has good things to say about the gameplay, but the setting/art direction just looks so painfully boring. Anyone here can vouch for it?

icy bike chain rain (zchyrs), Monday, 2 December 2019 18:59 (four years ago) link

Well, instead I decided to grab Turok 2 for $7. Time to blast some dino-soids!

thanks, i will make my feelings about the non-cheep-cheep auto-scroll levels and the spinning star platforms known

Digital Foundry dude makes the case that "Alien: Isolation" sometimes looks and plays *better* on Switch than on other consoles, with exceptions.

oh and I finished FE3H, well one of the routes anyway (Black Eagles).
they added a lot of ancillary stuff to the game between battles which worked well for the most part, Persona type events to level up relationships between characters, learn abilities, fishing & gardening etc etc. I felt it ran out of steam in the last 10 hours or so though, became far too repetitive and I found myself skipping a lot of it to get to the next story-driven battle. also I played on Hard/Classic and found it far too easy, the limited rewind function is a good idea but I barely had to use it.
a good but flawed effort to update the FE formula then, hope the next iteration nails it.

salute on those retro picks!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 5 December 2019 03:47 (four years ago) link

Alien: Isolation seems kinda expensive for what it is and for how long it’s been out. 35 bucks for Switch and 30 on PS4. Feel like I’ve been consistently thinking about buying it over the past five years and not doing it because it seems more expensive than it should be.

circa1916, Thursday, 5 December 2019 04:02 (four years ago) link

Also lol 10 dollars doesn’t mean anything but it’s weird how that will be a dealbreaker for buying a video game sometimes.

circa1916, Thursday, 5 December 2019 04:07 (four years ago) link

I got it on sale a few weeks back for PS4, and it was $11.99.

My cut-off for impulse purchase is about $20, anything at that price or below. Most games I've bought for Ps4 have probably been somewhere between $10 and $20. But keep an eye out, because certain titles go on sale almost cyclically, while other titles (like Resident Evil 2, or the From games) seem to go on sale much less often, or for much less off.

Price is def. the reason I have trouble pulling the trigger on a lot of Nintendo games.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 5 December 2019 04:11 (four years ago) link

Have the same 20 dollar max for impulse purchases I think. Also I get this “who the fuck do you think you are?” attitude when I see newer, better games that are cheaper right next to it.

Supermash looks intriguing, it'll be interesting to see how well they pull off that concept

only interested in golf story 2: sports story and the picross murder mystery game

ciderpress, Tuesday, 10 December 2019 18:24 (four years ago) link

supermash reminds me of the board game "504" which was interesting conceptually but close to 0 of the 504 games it could create were actually fun to play

ciderpress, Tuesday, 10 December 2019 19:03 (four years ago) link

No news on Silksong?

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 10 December 2019 20:16 (four years ago) link

lol speaking of which, I just saw that clip of Gleamlight, and boy, what a shameless looking mimic of Hollow Knight ...

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 10 December 2019 23:15 (four years ago) link

celeste on switch us for ten bucks if anyone's not tried it yet
Skyrim and Doom are $30
Octopath $36

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 12 December 2019 19:14 (four years ago) link

Celeste for $10 is a steal, considering it should've cost $60 to begin with

Swilling Ambergris, Esq. (silby), Thursday, 12 December 2019 19:30 (four years ago) link

yeah i'll be grabbing that one

circa1916, Thursday, 12 December 2019 19:33 (four years ago) link

anyone played Skyrim on switch? I've never played it before, but I'd like to fill the BOTW hole in my heart and that looks serviceable

rob, Thursday, 12 December 2019 19:39 (four years ago) link

it's nothing like botw other than having a big map but the switch version is a good port if that's what you're asking

ciderpress, Thursday, 12 December 2019 19:51 (four years ago) link

yeah mostly concerned with "does it look nice?"

rob, Thursday, 12 December 2019 20:03 (four years ago) link

it looks like skyrim - much gloomier and greyer world than botw but it has its nice bits

ciderpress, Thursday, 12 December 2019 20:09 (four years ago) link

bravely default 2 hell yeah
