A PS4 Thread: Because You Had to Play "Knack"

i don't think any of the switch additions are crucial, for japan the biggest one is voice acting but the PS4 version already had english voices. the soundtrack is a weak point regardless of whether it's recorded or synthesized. the 16-bit mode is more of a novelty than good content

also you're obviously getting all that stuff in exchange for a graphics downgrade on switch

DQ11 soundtrack is OK, only egregious one is the field music which can be changed to the DQ8 field music on Switch. The graphics really aren't that much downgraded imo, the artstyle helps a lot with that.

I took advantage of the current sales to replace a couple of my physical copies with deep-discount digital copies, then put my physicals up for sale to cover the cost. Nice way to reduce the clutter. So many A+/AAA games for $10 ...

I know! A lot of good $15/$20/$25 physical titles too. I'm guessing some of these might get ported to next gen, as well, so I'm trying to limit myself a bit...

Have they ever officially said if or how PS4 titles will be backwards compatible on PS5? Or is that all still just rumor?

rumor is they'll be backwards compatible out of the box but no guarantee yet

I believe Sony said they'll do PS4 and PSVR compatibility; earlier than that, not confirmed. Makes sense given their generation lead and investment in VR thus far (kind of like when they ported Move over to PS4)

i would not expect PS3 compatibility ever, that console had bizarro cpu architecture that's difficult to emulate

they also had a controller they decided to never support, with the analog buttons (rip)

the only game i remember using it was MGS2 which was kinda annoying frankly

i still have my ps3 hooked up so that i can play Skate 3, Beyond Good and Evil, and PS1 games- i don’t ever expect to unhook it tbh.

A quick little PSA for those inclined. I've kept a relatively modest wish list of PS4 games, and between sales over the last year or so managed to get most of them inexpensively. One exception was Sekiro, as it's newer, and From titles don't seem to go on sale as much, or at least not as deep. But for Black Friday (I assume) lots of places, including Amazon, were selling Sekiro for $25, which isn't that bad for a newer From title. So this morning, because I had to order something anyway, I dropped it in my Amazon cart, figuring might as well, it's not going to get much better ... and when I checked out an apparently hidden coupon took off another $4! Maybe it was a secret Cyber Monday deal? Who knows, but around $20 for Sekiro new seems like a pretty great price.

sekiro is good, was giving my launch PS4 fits but now that i own a PRO i am gonna revisit. currently i am coming down from Death Stranding Madness with jedi fallen order. it's fun! it's got some dumb fun uncharted shit and some weird fun dark souls bonfire shit. you can probably wait for sales in the 20-30 dollar range rather than late night impulse buying it like i did.

I've heard a lot of reports of it being kinda janky. The Dunkey video was pretty fun, wherein he lets a baddie shoot a rocket at him, then uses the force to pull the baddie into the approaching missile *from behind it.*

it's a little janky but not in a way that bothers me. i read something comparing it to a ps2 game which is reasonably accurate. it's a little looser an experience than most modern "AAA" games.

on one of the first planets you visit you go and Do Your Objective. then you have to make your way all the way back across the map to your ship, using a newly "remembered" force power to open shortcuts and solve puzzles. there's no real guidance or suggestion or indication that you are going the right way. just like old times!

i feel like we know everything about the samurai game, it's open world stealth action so an offbrand assassins creed maybe with some fancier graphical set pieces

Yeah, but we don't know how well it plays. For example, I was interested in Control, but after some fixes and patches people still say even the Pro sometimes struggles with that game, so as a slim owner I've sort of put the purchase on ice.

Dude, Control is my GOTY and I have a Slim! And yes the framerate lags when you're fighting a roomful of enemies with a million things flying around but it never bothered me that much.

finished Cold Steel 1 yesterday. the game starts anime as fuck but the last few hours really took it to another level, so ludicrous that I couldn't help but revel in the daftness of it all. hopefully they crank it up even more in the second & third games lol.

they definitely crank it up more, though mostly in the form of increasing the number of mysterious factions with unclear motives each game until you give up trying to take it seriously

i'm playing 3 now and enjoying it, it's set up like 1 structurally but escalates a lot faster and pulls in some characters from the older trails games which is fun

lol that's good to know, I've bought the second game but probably won't get round to it until next year, need to play something smaller after DQXI, FE3H and CS1 triple whammy in the last couple of months phew

probably should've bit on Control/Sekiro at $25 for BF, but I can wait another three-six months

I just played Journey recently and wow, totally choked up at the end.

It was especially powerful because I did it with a companion.
