I got to the end of that thread and as stupid as it still is, I'm still just so happy about the eyebrows.

I want to say Black Eyed Peas changed the song midstream, which is to say, after it had already gotten some traction. I saw them right around the time the album came out (they were touring with/opening for N*E*R*D), and I absolutely remember them introducing the song by talking about its original title and explaining why they were changing it. (The Black Eyed Peas show was awesome, btw, not going to lie. So much better than the headliners, who not only iirc sucked, but did so while performing standing on a picnic table.)

So Laura updated her Twitter thread this morning:

It turns out there’s more. From the Tim Ferriss show in April. “I can’t stop thinking about how I want to win her over, and change her mind, and force her to love me, and connect with me, and see the light. It’s almost bordering on a mental obsession.” https://t.co/WOuNhE1Md7 pic.twitter.com/1cFEpex0iP

i think cancel culture has gotten out of hand and overblown but I'm happy to make an exception in this case, what can we do?

akm, Sunday, 24 November 2019 19:47 (four years ago) link

The feature-not-a-bug part of all this is that if it weren't for her periodic outbursts of horribleness I would have forgotten all about Amanda Palmer years ago. So I guess it works for her on some level.

i didn't know she was married to neil gaiman

In most of the fan comments on AP's tweets there's all this praise for her honesty, which I guess makes me realize that honesty is not something I seek from artists.

man she is so much worse than lena dunham and the only thing they have in common is that they are women narcissists

AP abuses power the way that a televangelist abuses power afaict -- with a facade of phony goodwill and a megaphone that is granted by sad needy sycophants :(

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Monday, 25 November 2019 18:43 (four years ago) link

i don't even know if it's conscious or not but it reminds me of gaslighting a bit, like she's clearly someone who gets cornered on an issue and lashes out (cf firing her employee after concerns were raised about her use of the "n" word), and when she doesn't have devotion from someone she feels threatened and uses this facade of goodwill and understanding (creating some level of plausible deniability) and turns unwanted attention towards this person who doesn't like her. she also reminds me of the stepmom from fleabag.

something about the niche adulation she receives and exploits really grosses me out the way that Morrissey's racism is worse to me than, say, Ted Nugent..a sense of trust with their feelings that their fans have

five months pass...

Apparently she and Neil Gaiman were quarantining in New Zealand, but he fucked off and went back to the UK. She wrote about it on her Patreon because of course she did: https://www.patreon.com/posts/36720010

Was just coming here to post that. Congratulations to Gaiman for breaking out of the asylum, I guess?

He posted a slightly salty tweet about her patreon post, buddy, you knew what you were getting into

COVID and the Gang (jim in vancouver), Monday, 4 May 2020 18:54 (three years ago) link

this reinforces my visceral lizard-brain repellence at a salutation like "hey loves" or "my darlings" or "dearest dearhearts" or any sort of hyper-affectionate opener to a newsletter. being lumped into "group of people who love me" by any person makes me feel so gross!
she makes my skin crawl :(

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Monday, 4 May 2020 19:20 (three years ago) link

I was actually surprised that it took her so long to do something "newsworthy" considering the circumstances of Covid-19 have created an even larger captive audience for her performance of self ... literally captive.

Uuuugh this is going to be so ugly, isn't it?

Not sure which was more off-putting, Amanda's patreon post or literally the first reply to Neil's tweet about it being some rando posting a gif from Labyrinth of "Should you need us, for any reason at all...".

They're both going to turn their respectively awful fanbases on each other, aren't they?

I liked a couple of things Neil wrote, quite a while back, but any remnant of goodwill from those has been lost by his constant shilling of masterclass courses and enabling of this bullshit.

I am not going to talk any shit about her marriage ending because that shit is super hard and he left her; she didn’t take the kid away from him. That is tough.

I also know that oversharing is her brand so I can’t really fault her for processing this the way she processes everything even though every bone in my body is screaming “WHAT ARE YOU DOING, NO JUST SHUT UP, YOU DON’T ACTUALLY HAVE TO WRITE ABOUT THIS” because… it’s apparent she does. I feel for her and I don’t want to know any more about what’s going on because I shouldn’t know more about her divorce than her kid.

DJP, Monday, 4 May 2020 23:29 (three years ago) link

every month, all patreon creators lose a percentage of their patrons because credit cards are declined for one reason or another.

i usually lose a few hundred people.

this month ESPECIALLY, please make sure your account is up to date. we need you.
