I don't care abut the royals generally but I think this is a distinctive kind of not caring. Non-royalist Twitter seems very interested in the interview.

Alba, Sunday, 17 November 2019 01:04 (four years ago) link

I care enough about the Royal Family to fervently hope for their destruction but, other than that, I don't have any interest in watching an interview with some worthless rich moron trying to cover their back.

it's fine to not care about it before you hear the details of the interview or watch it at which point it's not-okay to not-care about it.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Sunday, 17 November 2019 02:33 (four years ago) link

per. the rules the thing is on iplayer for the next 29 days. I very much doubt it will be on Iplayer for 29 days.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Sunday, 17 November 2019 02:37 (four years ago) link

If you watched it then posting that you don't care about it seems like you don't care about abuse. If you didn't watch it it seems like the same but you are telling people that you don't care about the abuse you didn't hear about. Neither stance is a good stance, alba ffs.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Sunday, 17 November 2019 02:47 (four years ago) link

& it's nothing to do with royalists. It's to do with not aligning yourself with a clear abuser.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Sunday, 17 November 2019 02:50 (four years ago) link

to be clear - this is a very bad thing to make a public (ilx is public) statement about "not caring" about it.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Sunday, 17 November 2019 02:52 (four years ago) link

sorry to go on but publically stating that you don't care about this is not good. try to take yourself out of the internet bubble for a bit.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Sunday, 17 November 2019 02:56 (four years ago) link

I don't care about it and who is prince andrew

cryborg (rip van wanko), Sunday, 17 November 2019 05:35 (four years ago) link

If you watched it then posting that you don't care about it seems like you don't care about abuse.

that "seems" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

Grandpont Genie, Sunday, 17 November 2019 09:19 (four years ago) link

Yes, what was that about internet bubbles?

Alba, Sunday, 17 November 2019 12:08 (four years ago) link

If there's more to be gained from watching the interview than watching the him unconvincingly deny Virginia Giuffre's testimony it hasn't felt that way from the coverage (either on Twitter or from the media reports I've seen)

Alba, Sunday, 17 November 2019 12:45 (four years ago) link

I really got on my high horse. apologies, especially to Alba.

No worries. A 3am jed special. Apologies if I sounded like I was dismissing the whole case.

There is something weird about this Mr. Rogers revival. Seeing Hanks in the trailer in the makeup and garb, it just looks very very creepy & I won't go near that film

War Crimes Tribunal of the Network Stars (Old Lunch), Friday, 22 November 2019 16:08 (four years ago) link

There's nothing weird about the Mr. Rogers revival, really, imo. It's an attempt at course correction, people seeking a sane and centered alternative to the extremes gnawing at the edges of our everyday.

The Tom Hanks movie, though, is def weird, I'll grant you.

Judging by social media, I care far less about viral videos of humans risking their lives to save animals than many of my friends. In fact, I guess I do care insofar as I find this idiotic behavior rather than heart-warming.

Sam Weller, Saturday, 23 November 2019 12:36 (four years ago) link

The whole 'animals are innocent little angels whilst humans are monstrous devourers of nature' trend needs to die.

pomenitul, Saturday, 23 November 2019 12:53 (four years ago) link

Not least because nature is devouring itself through us.

^ I've seen about 10 bajillion people on my social media feed defending Billie Eilish and have seen exactly 0 people attacking her. This is almost always the exact pattern I witness for any big social media controversy & it makes me want to scream. Just shut the fuck up everyone, please.

it WAS really weird and stupid that it even became a thing though. like I could take or leave VH (mostly leave) but seriously, they're not the fucking Beatles. if she had zero familiarity with like the Stones or Prince or something I still personally wouldn't care but I could at least comprehend the incredulity.
