I like classical curves a lot, glad to see/hear that its appeal has endured. it has a lot of space and drama

Me I like Stone Island

Classical Curves includes a very out-there mutation of instrumental grime, but it also feels like it is much more than that

it stimulates some of the same pleasure centers for me as Daniel Lopatin’s music

I love almost everything he’s done this decade but Dean Blunt is a hard sell for most of my friends except those who smoke weed. And even them can’t stand him more than two songs in a row. I might need to meet more people.

The Babyfather side project is also slept upon a lot. I get so offput by that offensively tacky album cover for BBF, but I give it a pass because God Hour is one of my favorite things he’s done.

One of my friends described his music as post-racial and I can kind of hear what he meant.

I remember at the time writing about The Suburbs on some message board (not this I am pretty sure) and wondering if all the songs sounding pleasant enough but ultimately all the same and seemingly never-ending was meant to be some sort of meta-comment on urban sprawl.

Holy shit, two of those lists up there put DJ Rashad's Double Cup in the top 10. This warms my heart and gives me hope.

they probably are but their recent enough "best albums of the life time of the quietus" (iirc) was really weird and atypical for them because they asked a much wider range of contributors than usual for their votes

A Tribe Called Red are really great, I've taught their music in my indigenous lit/history classes. missed their show here last year because i was ill, but heard it was phenomenal from a friend who went.

this one's very dull, the most interesting thing i can say about it is they confusingly put the absolute worst james blake album (overgrown) on it

Ugh James Blake. I get his fandom even less than Frank Ocean’s.

That said, I don’t hate this list. Sure 80% of it is comprised of the “consensus” picks we’ll continue to see everywhere but it somehow feels to me like a more varied list than similar ones in its ranking and selections.

Maybe I’m just happy to see Shabazz so high in here
