i used to live in bedminster and the nearest pub had a sign in the door written in biro that said "locals only after 8pm". i wonder if any non-locals went in before 8pm.

I once went into a pub with a "customer notice Travellers will not be served here". When I asked the surly landlord if there was a payphone on the premises. He said its just around the corner but your not using it if you are from that bail hostel.

https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/grave-of-the-last-sin-eater-richard-munslow

"The unenviable practice of sin-eating was usually undertaken by beggars and the poor, who would ā€œpawn their soulsā€ā€”or be paid to eat and drink over a corpseā€”to ā€œtake onā€ the sins of the suddenly deceased (who had been unable to confess their sins before death). In the Christian faith, it was thought this ritual ensured the recently departed an untroubled passage into Heaven."

this guy died in 1906 btw!

Oh right, I only know the word 'sin-eater' from a Guided By Voices song, I just assumed it was some gobbledygook Robert Pollard nonsense.

(largely for recognition of "this is a definite type")

what is the name for this type of man??

English, Terry Pratchett fan, sardonic humour, left wing-ish, leather jackets, maybe long hair, maybe folk music, Bill Bailey, real ale, usually middle age+. Warhammer adjacent. Likes swords but doesn't necessarily own one?

Think they mean the bridge itself, which is completely nondescript - weird not to go for Tower Bridge but I guess it doesn't have any nursery rhymes about it. I bet loads of parochial morons think Tower Bridge IS London Bridge tbh
