oh wow this great grandpa album! the band name really put it off but i finally just put it on and i'm so glad i did!

I hesitate to make the comparison but it makes me think of a slightly more extroverted/rockin' Big Thief

No, me neither. I think he was quite self aware about how little people seemed to respond to them. It just seemed a very personal mission. The venue tonight is a Catholic Church, which is cool! Aaw Mordy if me and LJ ever come to the US we’ll try to time it with a Dashboard gig.

is it a small venue bc he doesn't have such a big following in uk or a big church? when he plays philly/jersey/ny area he always sells out moderate sized venues (sold out two nights in philly during this most recent tour)

Yeah, this is good. Is "Midwest Emo" really a genre? That's how RYM labels this, though apparently the band is from DC?

yeah it's a common enough term. the origin of it is that the 90s jangly/mathy second-wave emo scene was most prominent in the us midwest.

I've listened a bunch - it's grown off me a tiny bit just because the vocals and lyrics seem a little undistinguished but they're clearly a hell of a band, I love the video game music influence

Once again something I'd call "emo-adjacent", but on first listen Holy Fawn's Death Spells is kinda scratching my Juno itch, distended and surprisingly aggressive songs with a dense thicket of tones. Not sure yet if the songs are all there but the sound is great. (I guess it was technically issued last year but only made its streaming debut in 2019)

I went from thinking the new Creeper song was a decent teaser to being pretty sure it's one of their very best songs. Them, Foxing and Fireworks are my most anticipated for the '20 edition of this thread

Came here to see if anyone was talking about this insane Origami Angel album - ILX never disappoints. They have a Get Up Kids-y energy to them at times. I'm only halfway through my first listen and I am already so excited.

Not sure if beach Slang fits the thread but man I got a review copy of the new record and it ain't good.
