my son is a Shakira fan, lol he still plays that world cup 2010 song!

calzino, Friday, 1 November 2019 19:22 (four years ago) link

what does Shazammed mean in the context of this thread? i'm old, tired and too lazy to go on urban dictionary.

calzino, Friday, 1 November 2019 19:24 (four years ago) link

I'm a weirdo that uses Soundhound instead.

The first two of these were at a restaurant, and the last I think was at a grocery store:

Gerald Levert - Casanova
Ian Gomm - Hold On
Courtney Jaye - Can't Behave [without DJ Quik] (This title confuses me, because it doesn't seem like the type of song that would have ever featured DJ Quik)

MarkoP, Friday, 1 November 2019 19:27 (four years ago) link

Calzino, it means using the Shazam app to identify a song that's playing

Josefa, Friday, 1 November 2019 19:28 (four years ago) link

ah right. sounds pretty good tbh.

calzino, Friday, 1 November 2019 19:42 (four years ago) link

Are you guys typing these in? You all realize you can just hold down on the song title in the app, it’ll bring up a “copy” bubble and you can just paste it into Zing or Flagging

I can't remember much about these, except that they were playing in a waiting room and I was bored enough to be curious about their seemingly designed-to-be-ignorable playlist:

Wild Rivers - Speak Too Soon
Imaginary Future & Kina Grannis - I Will Spend My Whole Life Loving You
The Head and the Heart - People Need a Melody

Damon Jee - Chamaniac
Shaun 36.5

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 2 November 2019 05:10 (four years ago) link

I have no recollection of that Shaun song but listening again and it's apparently a k-pop song with that retro faux-cha cha 8 bit thing... kind of like Dram's Cha Cha or Drake's Hotline Bling. I love that particular kind of sound. I guess it would've gotten stale fast if it had become a bigger trend.

Does Shazam have geolocation to tell you where exactly you heard a song? I don't really frequent places that play k-pop in mexico. I don't even know any that do... probably heard it in a clothing store.

dyl, Saturday, 2 November 2019 16:20 (four years ago) link

the last one I can remember was Michael Brun & Kah-Lo - Spice

The World According To.... (Michael B), Saturday, 2 November 2019 16:29 (four years ago) link

for me these are

1. j balvin & bad bunny - la canción
2. paula abdul - forever your girl
3. cigarettes after sex - falling in love

situations being

1. at mexican restaurant for (former) cow*rker's goodbye gathering. i knew *of* the song before due to being aware of the j balvin/bad bunny album but hadn't actually heard it -- really liked it a lot.
2. one of the lousy classic hits stations in my city is finally starting to work more material into its dusty playlist. i was pleasantly surprised to hear it play another paula abdul song besides "straight up" (very rarely they'll also do "opposites attract") but didn't remember which song it was. (i was at w*rk where radio is our only allowed option for music.)
3. this was playing on the noncommercial/community station. actually enjoyed it + promptly posted about it on ilm after lol

dyl, Saturday, 2 November 2019 16:30 (four years ago) link

la cancion is indeed excellent

kanye kendrick frank kendrick frank kanye (voodoo chili), Saturday, 2 November 2019 16:44 (four years ago) link

a top single of the year for me, easily

dyl, Sunday, 3 November 2019 04:43 (four years ago) link

1. The Stroppies - Cellophane Car (heard this on Basque radio, and it's such a huge Stereolab rip-off I had to know who and what it was)
2. Elissa - Ya Merayti (used under some documentary I believe)
3. Townes van Zandt - Nothin' (MOR radio)

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 4 November 2019 11:33 (four years ago) link

1. Galantis - “No Money”
2. Peter and Gordon - “A World Without Love”
3. The Ritchie Family - “The Best Disco in Town”

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 4 November 2019 18:22 (four years ago) link

"best disco in town" is such a time capsule
