Except maybe for parts of SOLO I haven't found the Disney-era fanservice to be all that winky and egregious? But I am a true SW stan and not to be trusted tbrr

My wife and I did the three-years prepaid Disney+ plan for the 20% savings, that's how ready I am for this.

Star Wars IX will be my last SW

may the Farce be with you

Which one was the last one? Is this new one the 9th one? I'm pretty comfortable being done. I don't think my wife has even seen the original trilogy, and my kids don't give a poop.

Whenever I see this thread (and the show title) my first reaction is always that it's an announcement for a Star Wars themed casino/resort. Which ... give it time, I guess.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 14:28 (four years ago) link

The resort part is already happening

Dunno if I'll watch it, but it's kind of amazing that TV shows look like this now.

jmm, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 14:35 (four years ago) link

I meant like Vegas-style, not Disney style. Or is there a Vegas Star Wars resort opening, too?

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 14:36 (four years ago) link

I agree with Moodles that this should ideally be a musical, set in 1920s Chicago, and if possible called Chicago the Musical: a Star Wars Story.

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 14:43 (four years ago) link

That's exactly what I was saying

I know a yubnub spot
Where the milk is blue
Cause Tatooine is hot

And there's a nightly duel
And all

I was born with stars in my eyes, watching the skies, asking myself why was I born with these feeeeeeeelings?
Dreams of death stars, outer space wars, battles that would leave you reeeeeeeeeling.
One of these days I will be one of them, one of these days I'll be outgunning them ...
One of these days I'll be outmanning them, every last one-man of them, again and again, you can't force me to stop when the heavens they have no clear ceeeeeeeeiling ....

Do you watch any television?

I do, I watch the news from different sources. Sometimes I see things that are completely against my cultural nature. I was raised with Latin and Ancient Greek and poetry from Greek antiquity, but sometimes, just to see the world I live in, I watch “WrestleMania.”

An unexpected choice.

You have to know what a good amount of the population is watching. Do not underestimate the Kardashians. As vulgar as they may be, it doesn’t matter that much, but you have to find some sort of orientation. As I always say, the poet must not close his eyes, must not avert them.

So you’ve been watching “Keeping Up With the Kardashians?”

I’m starting to discover it. I’m curious; that’s my guiding principal.

In all seriousness, there are so many great quotes in that interview that cutting and pasting is pointless.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 19:56 (four years ago) link

Favreau has made some highly successful films recently; did you feel an element of pressure working with him?

I do not know what other films he has made.

You don’t?

No.

Giancarlo Esposito hamming it up like a silent film villain. Fun episode. Weird music cues, though, before the big showdown. Sounded very 70s "Battlestar Galactica" or something. Makes me wonder if the budget got squeezed very tight lol.

maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 14 April 2023 12:07 (one year ago) link

Really liked the new episode, thought it was one of the best of the last two seasons. It was over the top in the best kind of way, 10 year-old me would have thought it was the best thing ever (to that, my 11 year-old said "BEST. EPISODE. EVER" after it was over....)

I always try to keep the "this is really for kids" in mind when watching, to keep the more ridiculous aspects in check and enjoy the ride, but to the discussion of the pirate guy even my kid said "what is this a Muppets crossover?" when he first showed up. And, yeah, total POTC vibes.

the hard juxtaposition of clowny corny stuff and like, 'sw-canon-theme' stuff usually works right for this series (except the power rangers ep, which was just, oh man, stop these drill sequences). this weeks ep was v fun with the villain reveal scene and impulsivity+ grodu.

OK but kinda strange finale. Why have the Darksaber be destroyed so easily? And if he can do that he can survive the inferno but a final scene with the other Imperial strays including Kane reacting to news of his demise would've kept some intrigue going into next season or other tie-ins.

mandalorians flying in a group with sabers pre-drawn seemed v illadvised, like running w scissors lol

Din Djarin had some John Wick feeling moves. Gideon talking about trinkets from within an ironman suit. Seemed to take too much time for Gideon to find them given he had dots on a map.

Nashwan otm re Darksaber, I was "well it wasn't THAT magikal!" That's my main takeaway lol. And yeah I was all "what is it about the spinniness of droid ports, that's a stupid design, what is it, a magneto?" In Star Trek borgs just stab a probe into a computer bank. xp

Caught up finally. Would be pretty happy honestly if that was the end of the show, everything feels pretty wrapped up, but I know that Disney probably won't let a massively successful show like this die gracefully. Rumor has it the Rangers of the New Republic stuff will be repurposed here - it looks like they already started with all the Coruscant stuff, Carson Teva, etc.

Really glad terribly-named Nite Owl AXE WOVES didn't die pointlessly as it looked like was gonna happen

And if Gideon survived that shit, or it was a clone, I will be pretty pissed off honestly
