and third track dots is even better. Good job I've already driven my neighbours out.

there's nothing on it that isn't exceptional imo, dusted links is gorgeous. the magic mountain high and reaganz tracks are really dynamic and focused. fred p track is an anthem.

get high and listen to 'cycles' >>>>>

some Thomas Fehlmann on there - the talented half of The Orb. I still love quite a few of his albums.

calzino, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 01:36 (four years ago) link

probably not the best track on here like!

calzino, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 01:37 (four years ago) link

songs from the beehive is an incredible full length. I really dig the first Reagenz album too (Moufang and Jonah Sharpe)

brimstead, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 04:16 (four years ago) link

still not got around to this but he's done some great stuff over the years, his Fabric mix is a classic

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 09:52 (four years ago) link

Building Bridges is pretty great, but IMO the second Reagenz album (Playtime) is still the best thing he's done in this deep/ambient house vein. If you like BB, you should check that one out, IMO it's one of the top 10 electronic music albums of this millennium.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 10:42 (four years ago) link

Oh playtime is the second one? That’s what I was talking about.

brimstead, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 15:44 (four years ago) link

Ah, ok. The first and the third one (a live album) are good too, but not on the same level of genius as Playtime.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 15:46 (four years ago) link

The first Deep Space Network album is really good too, the guy seems to be at his best when collaborating with someone else... Besides the ones already mentioned there's obviously all the albums he made with Namlook; they vary in quality, as you would expect since there's like thirty of them, but several gems in there too.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 17:41 (four years ago) link

ok? his workshop releases by himself are all solid gold secret weapons. his dj-ing by himself can be stellar although arguably that's a collaboration with a crowd. i think it's more accurate to say he likes to collaborate and that energy is audible on record.

cheese canopy (map), Tuesday, 29 October 2019 18:13 (four years ago) link

in any case tuomas you're on record yourself, extensively, about the namlook collaborations elsewhere. i wanted this thread to cover more of his solo work, and his djing. which, i've only heard recordings of his sets and would love to see him one day. curious if anyone here has had the chance and what it was like.

i only have original cd edition of Kunststoff which was released in 95, so this fella is clearly not a young'un now.
so, i am chuffed he is getting some love.
have to admit at the time i was not overly into this cd when i picked it up.
have tried it several times over the years (especially when it got a much loved reissue a few years back).
i seem to recall it's a lovely listen , so will try again following this nudge.

(only other thing i have is Koolfang which is a non allowed FAX release - needless to say it was that connection that prompted me to pick up Kunststoff)

oh, and Wiki says he is older than me (53).
don't get me wrong i love old(er) people making techno/electronica.
it's definitely becoming a thing as we move into a new era as original rave era music makers continue their journey
eg see kompakt and the recent thomas fehlmann solo material (i loved 'los lagos').
it's the fact that there are new threads declaring love for new material that's a welcome surprise.

mark e, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 18:47 (four years ago) link

i would read a david moufang biography immediately tbh

cheese canopy (map), Tuesday, 29 October 2019 18:53 (four years ago) link

from bits and bobs i've seen online he seems to have a saltiness to his personality which i can appreciate

cheese canopy (map), Tuesday, 29 October 2019 18:55 (four years ago) link

i have absolutely no idea re his life/world, and to be honest, i think thats often the best way.

mark e, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 18:56 (four years ago) link

He's probably the most memorable presence in Romuald Karmakar's If I Think of Germany at Night? Though maybe he was just shot when he was really high.

four weeks pass...

still in love with building bridges though some of the jammier bits are just a little too opaque to really click with me. "cycles" is so much fun, such a smile-bringer.
