cutting the scarface & faye wong albums from my ballot hurt a lot

the Benoit and Sergio is a single
― brimstead, Saturday, 26 October 2019 22:31 (four years ago) link
yes but it was nommed and voted for
― octobeard, Saturday, 26 October 2019 22:32 (four years ago) link
Gus Gus is it. “David” hit the charts the same week I started lusting after a dude with that name at Uni, so it was an instant classic for me.

that might be my most listened to momus record, it's a pretty good one
voted scarface
― ciderpress, Saturday, 26 October 2019 23:09 (four years ago) link
Three of these are mine. Puffy was my no.1 but I’d unreservedly recommend Faye Wong to anyone who hasn’t listened to her, Fable is remarkable.

Two of these are mine, lol. Tough to pick one.

I'm pretty sure I know who voted for that Denki Groove album.
― MarkoP, Sunday, 27 October 2019 05:52 (four years ago) link
I’ve heard exactly 4 of these, 1 of which I think is abysmal, 1 decent, 1 good & 1 almost great. And I haven’t heard the Deftones album but I’ve hated every note I’ve heard from them. The other 22 are super up for grabs, but a week won’t suffice to evaluate.

Why is Negură Bunget (my #1) not on this list? Someone else put it in their top 3?
― pomenitul, Sunday, 27 October 2019 09:52 (four years ago) link
someone else voted for it at all!
― imago, Sunday, 27 October 2019 10:17 (four years ago) link
Nm, my brain is muddled this morning.
― pomenitul, Sunday, 27 October 2019 10:23 (four years ago) link
as for my top 3...a passing spacecadet was my cheer-accident buddy and also joined tt and i on the north sea radio orchestra train...but rules are rules and i have to pick one of the above, which is tricky as i don't think i've heard much of them. my instinct is reigning sound or faye wong but i might give them all a skim listen
― imago, Sunday, 27 October 2019 10:24 (four years ago) link
Is there one for singles? A lot easier for things never heard!
― saer, Sunday, 27 October 2019 10:59 (four years ago) link
i was the lonely scarface voter. will def check some of these out
― devvvine, Sunday, 27 October 2019 11:07 (four years ago) link
Bang on a Can was my vote, so.... Here's my favorite track from it. Arnold Dreyblatt's microtonal "Escalator":https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTqcMKZQrOQ
I'm surprised that the Dylan and AnCo albums were also sole votes. i like 'em.

but a week won’t suffice to evaluate
There's over a week left as of today. I suppose the timestamp floors its units, so polls that allow 12 or 13 days of time are labeled "a week from now"

I remember I saw My Favorite and thought they were really good so that would probably be my vote, but I never listened to any of their albums so I'm not voting.

hey my #1 is on here!
― Mordy, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 18:10 (four years ago) link
voted for scarface, the last cut from my ballot (which wound up being only 49 votes, d'oh)

The two videos from Azeda Booth:

It sounds really soothing and nice, but the lyrics are amazing. I need help, so badly / No one here, can help me / Cause all, my friends, do drugs

The correct answer is GusGus, which would not have been eligible for this poll had I voted in the other one
― brigadier pudding (DJP), Wednesday, 30 October 2019 13:29 (four years ago) link
lol @ me for voting for the one you can't hear on any streaming services
― frogbs, Wednesday, 30 October 2019 13:31 (four years ago) link
The Frisell was my vote. Hardly anyone other than the Grammy committee seems to agree but I've always liked it. Sort of his (v loose and quasi-ambient) take on classic R&B with the band playing over loops. Good mix of light grooves and more extended sonic exploration.

Aereogramme and Party of Helicopters were mine.
Party of Helicopters will probably appeal to all you new Life Without Buildings fans; they rock harder but they have a similar way of disconnecting the guitars from the vocals. PoH has better vocal melodies though.
Here's one of my faves from that album:

I'm glad I followed my heart and voted for Biota, which was also my #1 in the poll. Good work, other ILX Charalambides fans!

Oh furby I didn’t see this poll but write in vote for Colleen or Murcof. I loved and overplayed those a lot in their respective years.
