I just find it weird that the Astros had a strategy that they steadfastly committed to all season, only to change their minds in the most important game of the season.

Isn't that the way with postseason, though? You improvise according to the situation, and do things (obviously, bullpen-use especially) you wouldn't normally do. Soto's killing them, Kendricks is hitless. I still haven't looked at the play again, but I thought Houston more or less got what they wanted from Kendricks.
