68 pitches...I think it's silly to take out Tanaka.

MLB just posted that Tanaka is currently third all time for lowest postseason ERA, minimum seven starts, behind Koufax and Matthewson.

I assume you mean NYS broadcasters association hall of famer john sterling

Yes. They are an enjoyable listen.

timellison, Sunday, 13 October 2019 03:30 (four years ago) link

It is kinda hilarious that the year after Harper moves on the Nats actually start going somewhere in the playoffs.

Did not get a chance to see the game tonight, but Tanaka is fun to watch pitch. That dude is just business on the mound. Tanaka seems like one of those rare players that does get the most out of his abilities, he really knows how to pitch.

otoh Stanton+Ellsbury+Happ = $65m :-/

Nothing is worse than that Italian gibberish Sterling does for Stanton home runs. I’ve actually enjoyed Stanton being out of the lineup in that I don’t have to hear it.

At one extreme, there's letting a team go up 10-0 in the first inning; at the other, "God, no, back-to-back hits!"

clemenza, Monday, 14 October 2019 01:12 (four years ago) link

i'm sure that wasn't all -- had to believe Paxton wasn't sharp

The walk was the killer--he had him 0-2.

I thought Paxton looked okay. I'm hoping Boone pays for this as (if? gulp...) the series goes deeper, but they're carrying 13 pitchers, so maybe it's no big deal.

clemenza, Monday, 14 October 2019 01:34 (four years ago) link

Paxton was first pitch ball to nine of the twelve batters he faced.
