For the trial of Tim Heidecker, did you have actors with legal experience involved, or a legal procedure consultant? I was impressed with how accurate the procedural elements were during the trial.

TimandGregg

T: Yes, most of the lawyers and the judge were actors with legal experience. They added a lot of their actual expertise and knowledge of the legal process. We are infinitely grateful to them for their contributions.

G: The same was true of the police, medical, and emergency response witnesses

always suspected this was the case but nice to see it confirmed. i'm still in awe they were able to pull that off so convincingly

I've wondered the same thing! An astoundingly wise approach that paid off in spades. I love the amount of real-world attention and care that goes into making a work of such deep stupidity.

ScaryDebbie

What are your thoughts on people who review movies without watching them?

TimandGregg
G: Some of them seem to be reviewing our movie currently

lmao

I suspect it will be a one- or two-bagger for Greg

― The Ravishing of ROFL Stein (Hadrian VIII), Monday, October 7, 2019 3:20 PM (yesterday) bookmarkflaglink

OTM. At the show the other night Gregg said that Mr America was "a one-or-two bagger at best". When Tim challenged him that he hadn't seen it he replied "I don't need to see it - I was there the whole time it was being made!"

everything, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 18:28 (four years ago) link

Do you ever regret using your real name as your character’s name?

T: Sometimes I wonder if it would've been easier or more helpful to come up with stupid names but these are the choices we've made and we have to live with that every single day of our lives.

G: It definitely leads to schizophrenic tone to Tim's twitter account. As my Twitter account is only OnCinema related, definitely doesn't cast me in a good light overall.

laughed at this, out loud

Q: To what extent does someone need to know On Cinema lore to dig into this movie?

A: When we started this, we weren’t thinking about a theatrically released movie. It would just be something we put up on the Adult Swim website, as maybe a half hour. But as we were doing it, we realized it was working. It felt right. Our editor gave us a rough, two-hour cut and said “I don’t know, this feels like a movie.”

Nathan Fielder [of Nathan for You] looked at it early on and said “guys, this isn’t just for the website. This needs a poster. It needs to get reviewed.” So then we looked to restructure the first half for people who hadn’t watched anything from us.

If you watch, say, Making A Murderer or any of the thousand murder documentaries on Netflix, you don’t know everything about these people. A good documentary feeds you the backstory and moves you along. We don’t bombard you with “a film critic who started an EDM festival — “

From a New York Times article interviewing people who dressed up as the Joker at Comic-Con:

Cruz was so set on playing Phoenix's version of the Joker that he bought the movie-specific costume on Amazon just for the occasion.

"I was the 'Dark Knight' Joker previously," Cruz said. "I’m just a Joker-head. This is one I wanted to take on."

the screening here played Dekkar videos & Our Values Are Under Attack and trailers for Oh God! and The Shaggy D.A. beforehand, had a certified popcorn classic on every seat, and gave away a movie hat after a game of Stump The Buff

imo the movie is incredibly awesome if you're an on cinema-head. i went with someone who doesn't know on cinema that well but is a tim heidecker fan and she wasn't quite as enthused as i was but also it must be weird to be in a theater full of people laughing very loudly at in-jokes you haven't heard before

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 11 October 2019 18:30 (four years ago) link

i went with someone new to On Cinema and she loved it, but she likes Tim & Eric and i'd shared a couple episodes with her beforehand that i thought offered a good window into the universe (S4E3 and S6E2)

Would watch when my brother and friend get to town this weekend but they are among the T&E heads who have yet to become On Cinema heads so it seems like they need a proper immersion first. Maybe I can convince them to spend 84 hours binging everything that's happened thus far.

The Dekkar guys are wise to cover something so closely tied to cinema.

Who was it who said "Reboots are always better"?

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 11 October 2019 19:34 (four years ago) link

yeah, let's imagine they worked it up for the On Cinema Oscar Special, and presented it earnestly to Tim & Gregg at a meeting, only to be let down politely & gently

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 11 October 2019 19:42 (four years ago) link

the footage from the end of The Trial in the movie, with Axiom & Manuel lightly corpsing behind Tim's victory speech, was a sweet reminder that they get at least a little bit of the joke

there are def some moments on the 4th special where the camera cuts to them and they're clearly laughing
